Once you have built a Hospital, can you sell the Aqueduct? It seems to me (in real life) that would be the case, since major cities now a days have operating hospitals but not aqueducts.

The same question could apply to other buildings which are prerequisite pairs, but in all other cases (temple/cathedral) there are gains from both buildings, so you wouldn't want to sell the original.

I thought you couldn't sell aqueducts at all?

Modern cities do require the delivery of water. Logically it seems to me the aqueducts are replaced by water towers with the advent of electricity. Lucky us, this doesn't require an additional tech to research, you get it for free.

I think Aqueducts, once built, are indestructible and unsellable. I could be wrong, but I recall bombarding a largish city until all units were redlined and it was Size 1, and everything was getting a Miss (Artillery); the Aqueduct was still standing, though, when I captured it. For the other buildings (Temple, Library, Market, etc), I think you can sell the lesser improvement without affecting the higher ones, but I could be wrong.

Edit:

Or via modern sewer systems with the advent of Sanitation, which is when Hospitals come online.

Los Angeles has an aqueduct system.

I'll admit that I'm not much of a micro manager. I didn't even know that buildings can be sold. Who buys them, the AI?

No, you just sell it for scraps - you get some shields and I think you get some gold if you have recycling? Not sure on that. Basically it is salvage materials.

No need to deal with high population problems either. If it is totally corrupt and not worth a marketplace, turn as many into taxmen or beakerheads as you can and zero out the food growth. Set the town to build wealth and you never need to look at it again. If you set it to build workers or settlers, make sure to go back and reset the assignments after the build to acheive zero growth.

You get shields, if you know Recycle.
Yeah, it's the other way around.

Yeah, it's the other way around.

Yeah, I was thinking of disbanding units. That gives you shields, right? I guess that tells you how often I sell a building!

Lets see, Raliuven 0, vmxa . . . add . . . carry the 1 . . multiple . . . E99999.890 . . .

You also avoid the maintenance cost of the item, so selling a granary nets you a few shields and/or gold (depending on if you know recycling) and also saves 1 gpt. Useful if you city has maxed out in size and you won't (or can't) build a higher capacity yet.
