Sirius Intra-Team Pitboss Game!

Oh, I was going to request a reload because I missed the last turn by a few minutes due to work and traffic. Should have posted here to let you know rather than just PMing DaveShack. I guess if you've already played you probably don't want a reload... I suppose I could live with that, just a pain is all.

I don't mind if you want to reload, it wasn't an eventful turn in terms of rolling any dice (so to speak). But yes it generally would be good to know before I go and play the turn.
Yeah, sorry about that, I was doing multiple other things at once. Haven't heard from Dave yet - I think he only comes online in the evenings in US time - so I'll wait to see what happens before playing. If he decides to reload, I'll play after he reloads... if he decides not to, I'll play after he posts here saying so. :)

PS You did log in last turn, according to civstats, so I thought you had played it? Was it connection problems again?
Nope, I didn't (for the 1525 AD turn). What you're seeing there are crappy internet issues - I tried to connect earlier from a location with poor internet and it wouldn't work (loaded to about 10% in 10 minutes then quit out). Thus had to wait until I got home, and I ended up being just a few minutes too late to make it.

Should have posted earlier for a pause, sorry about that - I usually remember, but had so many other things on my mind lately that I completely forgot.

No sign of Dave? The turn flips in 5 minutes and I can't seem to log in. That'll be two in a row I'll have missed, as well as one for Dave. I think a reload of some sort is probably in order. :)

Hmm, so what's going on? Dave seems to have played, but no word here. I really would appreciate a reload for at least one turn, if not two. I missed 1525 AD by a few minutes due to traffic and work, then missed 1530 AD because I was waiting to hear back from Dave and never did (and at the last minute when I tried to play before that turn flipped, I couldn't log in).

Missing two turns doesn't really affect my position in the game much I guess, but I just can't stand the idea of most of my empire lying stagnant for all that time... kind of spoils the immersion and fun for me. (Call me obsessive compulsive I guess. )

Anyway, look forward to hearing more on this. I'm kind of in a state of limbo at the moment... don't want to spend an hour or so playing if it'll get reversed soon with a reload, but don't want to end up missing a third turn either. :p

So please let us know whether there'll be a reload Dave. :)

I thought the issue from the previous PM had been resolved, and just now got the next one. (played and then fell asleep watching TV).

I think I actually missed last turn too, and did nothing of consequence this turn. And Irgy had not played, or at least had not ended turn.

OK, here's what I did. I loaded the start of 1525 -- kinda a pain to redo the turns but nobody was at war and I don't mind minor variation in the picture I saw when opening 1535. ;) Also kicked pindicator to AI which should not impact events of these turns. I plan to replay as closely as possible even though this gives me foreknowledge -- was already doing just about all I could anyway.

Ok, thanks. :)

For what it's worth I'd played and ended turn on every turn except the one we just reloaded in the middle of, which I'd skipped because we'd decided to wait for a reload. It's not exactly ideal to repeat a set of three turns where I made a 'surprise' declaration of war on the third, but I trust we can all repeat what turns we did play the same way we played them previously. I don't really have a point here I'm just whining for the sake of it.

Lord Parkin: I sent you some (three I think) messages in game, did you ever get them or did you never manage to log in and see them? I think I thought you'd logged in and seen them, but that might have been the failed connection attempt.

Nope, didn't successfully log in on any of the attempts from 1525 AD onwards, so I probably didn't get any of them. Feel free to PM me the messages if you want.

Obviously I won't play these turns any differently than I would have. I don't even know who you declared war on... hopefully not me.

Note: If you have an unusually hard time getting into the game or slow response that can't be explained by a difference in the connection on your end, it could be a problem on my end. Please PM if that happens. Pitboss was going wild on me and had transferred 250GB this month, most of it apparently to nowhere.

This game was probably not the culprit given it had just been reloaded. But I rebooted the computer to be sure.

Can't seem to enter the game, freezes on the "Finishing" screen while loading. Irgy, from Civstats it looks like you might have had the same problem?

PM'd Dave.

This confirmed my internet problem was indeed caused by a failed connection into pitboss. It was doing a steady 5KB/s before shutting it down, nothing after.

Reloaded start of 1545.

Thanks Dave.

LP -- did you just have a couple of really slow connects, or perhaps connection timeouts?
It was driving 500MB/s again, according to performance monitor. Don't know that I trust it to count bytes, but web pages got slow too.

I had a couple of really slow connects that resulted in timeouts. Then it was fine. Not sure if it's me or you. I know I've had some pretty bad internet over the past few days.

By the way Dave, I notice you haven't played for several turns. I'm sure you're probably aware Irgy's at war with you. If you'd rather not play, that's fine, but probably best to set yourself to AI so that it can put up a semblance of a fight.

Personally speaking, I have no problem if you'd like to take control of one of the other AI nations. Alternatively, if you'd prefer not to keep playing on any side, I'd still be happy to provide you with my password so you can keep watching in on the game as the host (assuming you're not playing any of the other civs, of course :p ).

EDIT: Actually I only just noticed you did log in once a couple of days ago. Still, it was the only time you played this game in almost a week, and you played the Warmup game regularly during that period. Hope everything's okay.

Well, the game was reloaded several times over that week. ;)
I'm still playing, though it's probably no secret at all that I'm hopelessly outgunned.

I have to take it down to reboot my computer, which is acting strangely. At least this time the current save is a good one and we don't need to go back.

Ok, that is officially the most frustrating thing in my entire Civ 4 life. What determines who gets the wonder when two people produce it on the same turn anyway?

Whatever it is, losing it to a coinflip or something arbitrarily stacked against me like "turn order" would be bad enough if there was nothing I could have done about it, but I was literally 4 base hammers short of getting it a turn earlier. There is at least 15 things I could have done about it but I never found the time to do the maths and realise that the hammers I lost after I chopped the lumbermills would indeed make me fall short. Then last turn I thought I was safe because it hadn't gone - in single player once it says "1 turn" then it's yours.

I'm so mad I could happily conceed at this point, but if LP wants to fight it out I'm sure I can pull myself back together and play on.
