SirPleb, Going for Sid

Has your ppt peaked yet? If so what can you get per turn at Sid?
ppt = points per turn? I've had a very long stretch where the score increase per turn has ranged between 200 and 230. I think the highest was 230. I'm currently hovering around 215.

Done!

I am pleased to report that I underestimated the score which could be squeezed from this game. Drumroll please...

I have a 2050AD Histographic win with a score of 64,296.

I think that's finally a new high - Aeson may have to start playing a HOF game again ;) I don't expect it will remain unbeaten for long. Nonetheless I'm quite happy with the game and with the score.

Details

From 1796AD to 2050AD the game was uneventful.

Cleopatra remained quiet in Padded Cell.

I finished my last land adjustments in 1842AD. Finished rushing improvements (aqueducts, harbors, marketplaces, granaries, hospitals, mass transits) in 1874AD.

Two turns after that my 50-turn research of Computers completed and I began research toward The Cure For Cancer. 100% research would require 15 turns to learn Miniaturization! Fortunately I had a lot of specialists. Reassigning most of them to be scientists got me to four turn research, running at just a small net loss. I learned Miniaturization in 1886AD, Genetics in 1896AD, and completed Cure For Cancer in 1908AD. After learning Genetics only a couple of scientists did any further research.

For a while I used Civil Engineers to increase income. I had them build Courthouses and Banks in some cities, and even added Police Stations and Stock Exchanges to some. I was thinking it would be interesting to see how high I could push per turn income in a Monarchy. It became tedious and there wasn't much reason to do it, so I didn't finish that exercise. A net income over 10,000gpt is probably possible.

Dianthus' CRpMapStat utility was a great help in the milking phase. His latest additions (a display of coming culural expansions, another of pollution, and a command to center the display on a specified city) are wonderful for milkers!

The agricultural trait resulted in having numerous cities which produced an odd amount of food. I couldn't "balance" most of these cities - they would grow and then starve for the remainder of the game. I built granaries in all such cities. With a granary they'd at least get a bit of value out of the 1 extra food - they'd be at a larger size 1/3 of the time due to the granary. Once again I wished that one of the AIs on my home continent had built the Pyramids!

The End?

Not quite :) Next I'll go back to dig into a few questions I noted along the way. When I finish that I'll report my findings here.

Congratulations SirPleb!:) :band:

Amazing!! Thats the first time 60K has been beaten on the new Huge Map size isnt it?

Why did you stay in Monarchy after military operations had ceased? It looks like you could have had almost 200 turns of democracy, would changing to democracy not have speeded up the rush build phase a little?

I would guess it's because Cleopatra's "Padded Cell" involved surrounding her city with units. This would require staying at war with her.

Not necessarily, you only need to stay at war with them if you want to position units in the 8 squares immediately surrounding the city and you cant get a ROP with them.

You can just stack up units at the edge of their cultural boundary and this will keep them locked down as the AI is too stupid to place a city a the edge of its territory in order to grab more land that way, at least thats the way it happens on the other levels, it wouldnt surprise me if they were more 'awkward' at Sid :)

cleo wouldn't even be able to build a settler as the city can't grow over size 2 because of all the tundra (it would only abandon that city)

and even without the "padded cell", he could always support enough units to just surround all cultural borders.

sirpleb, are you ever going to try and beat your score or was it just too time consuming? how many hours did you actually invest (excluding all the time in bed thinking and calculating what strategy would be best ;)). if you try, you should get it going before the next patch as it's possible that some AI weaknesses (no army, no attacking army in the field, etc) will get fixed and your life would have been a whole lot harder!

Great game SirPleb, and I especially appreciate the time you took to keep up with reporting the details and decision-making process. You've definitely expanded our knowledge of Sid!! ;)

Congratulations! And thank you for the superb writeup.

I hope you get your GOTM 100k culture win soon.

Congratulations indeed SirPleb, magnificent game and score. :goodjob:

And thanks for the very detailed and entertaining logs you kept of the game, resulting in a great and informational read.

Notwithstanding cries of "Sacrilege", I shall propose to Firaxis that the Game Level ABOVE Sid in Civ 4 be named "SirPleb"! :goodjob: :goodjob:

(Obviously by then YOU will require MORE of a Challenge!)

Will somebody please put together the appropriate CFC Poll?

SirPleb, you really own the Sir with this thread and game!
Have more milking high scores!
Kick us all out!
