Sirp's Training Day Game for Aspiring Monarchs

Just popping in and saying that either patch is fine for me, as I've been patching/unpatching for my other SGs. As far as game parameters, I consider myself a Guinea Pig and will go along with whatever you think up to torture us with. I've been playing some Deity on my own, but not as much lately as Epic 25 and RL have intervened. It seems like this TDG will focus on a builder's strategy, but I would also appreciate comments about how one would 'take this situation and build up for war' as warmongering is not my strong point. I can go to war effectively on emperor now, but on Deity I'm too dependent on the whim of the RNG.

For those wanting Monarch/Emperor TDGs: I'm not sure when they'll be implemented, but the new Team game concept over in the GOTM looks like it might help. I didn't spend enough time on Monarch to run a TDG, but you might see me and other Monarch/Emperor players there helping the Leaders out.

Yes this will definitely be geared toward being a builder's game Borealis. I'm tempted to make it a conquest/domination only game, which would force us to go to war at some point, but wouldn't force early war, which is the really tough bit on Deity.

I'm not that much of a warmonger myself, and I'm not sure I feel qualified to teach it on Deity. Of course, you never know what you're going to be up against, so it may turn out that we do have to fight some tough battles. We'll see.

Oh, also I do have an idea for a succession game at some point down the track that you might be interested in to develop high-level warmongering skills: 'The Pointy-Stick Aztecs'. It'd be on Emperor, and the rules would be no acquiring techs by any means other than as taking them from other civs as concessions for peace. That would force *alot* of war against technologically superior rivals, which is the exact kind of thing you have to do when you go to war on Deity.

hmm, i was thinking about doing something similar. what difficulty level are you going to do it if you do. if it is emporer and below i would love to try it as war is by far my weakest poiny

That would be.....um......interesting. :help:
Hell, I'll probably be floundering around like a drowning man in the deep end of the pool. Why not throw a few sharks in there as well to liven up the show. :p :rotfl:

Seriously though, I think that's a good idea, IMHO.

@Matt: Actually making it conquest/domination only generally makes Deity *easier*, since the human has all the time in the world to win when they want, rather than being under time pressure to stop spacerace or diplomatic victories. Although it does make the game take a LONG time at the end. RBE1 was a game under these conditions; it was a builder's game most the way through with war at the end. And gee....I remember half a saturday taken up on 5 turns of that. Was lots of fun though, the only really competitive modern warfare I've played. Still, anytime it gets to over an hour a turn, especially for someone like me who definitely doesn't do that much micromanagement, it's pretty horrendous.

@bewareofgnomes: It'd be on Emperor level, like I said, but I think it'd probably be harder than a Deity game, especially if the world was standard size of larger (so you can't just rush all your rivals). It'd also be much harder with any civilization other than the Aztecs (if you don't know why that is, think about it for a bit). For these reasons, it'd probably require Deity experience to play (or maybe Always War on Monarch, although I'm not sure if I know anyone who has won AW/Monarch and hasn't won on Deity). It'd also be a doable variant on Regent or Monarch of course, although it could get a little boring, especially on Regent, with how slow the AIs research.

Good points Sirp. I'm going to go read the RBE1 thread.

damn it!!! i must get better and get better quick. maybe we could start an april fools day sg or something. :P

Hmm, what Difficulty Skill Level would this Emperor SG be at? Hopefully it would be the one that I could be in. I came from a Warmongering Emperor Level in the Demogame. If not then, well Ill be on my way.

HUH? The title says emperor. Why are you asking the difficulty level when it is in the title? :help:

Sorry about that :s. I was following along and THe last I have heard that there is a DTDG being planed and an Emperor TDG planed but switched to a Emperor SG. Can someone Clarify and Enlighten me on what are we discussing about :help:

bewareofgnomes & CivGeneral: The 'Pointy-Stick Aztecs' game I mentioned was only a vague idea that may or may not happen at some point in the future, with or without further refinements to the vague outline I gave. Although improving your playing skill is no-doubt a good and enjoyable thing to do, I would suggest that whether or not you qualify to play a thusfar hypothetical game is nothing to get worked up about.

Oh and CivGeneral, I have no idea what you're talking about with the difficulty level either. The skill level required to play? Well like I said, it's probably going to be as or more difficult than a Deity game.

-Sirp.

EDIT (After seeing CivGeneral's latest post): I don't see what is so confusing; if you read the thread what is going on is pretty simple. I am running a Deity TDG. I also suggested there is alot of demand for a Monarch or Emperor TDG, but no-one has started one. I also floated a hypothetical idea of another Emperor succession game that could be played at some point in the future. There are no concrete plans to start such a game at this time however.

@Sirp - Thanks for Clearing that up. The Pointy-Stick Aztec game sounds good. We could possibly turn that SG into a Emperor TDG.
Sorry about Confusing everyone with the Difficulty Level, sometimes Late at night I can Confuse myself :s.

If it would be possibe, I wish to Sponser a Monarch TDG. (Boy How much you can learn from Dave in 1 day :) )
