Size 42 City!

If you change some of those taxmen to scientists you could have a much faster tech pace, not that it matters.

I've done that in the past, but in this game I left the weakest AI still alive (killed the others). They are more than 1 hole age behind. I'm going for a culture win (about 25 more turn or so) so my science is set to 0%, I'm buying all the culture I can every turn. Temp. lib. ect

I think this may be the biggest city I've ever had. I was milking the game on PtW and Moscow got to size 42.
And if you had waited for just three more turn, you would have been able to show an even bigger city, with 43 population :p

No polution keeps robbing the food supply about 2 of every 3 turns.

Never seen a city so big, mines almost always do not go over 35... I guess it just gives me another reason to keep playing

Here is the finial shot of my game. This is the turn after I won. Moscow never got above size 42 due to pollution.

Nope, only while the city is shrinking, or there are less happy people then content. Of course, unhappy people will still take it away.

Are you absolutely positive about it???
I remember I've read manual that WLTKD can only happen when city is growing....
Don't have a manual with me right now, can't check.

forgive me if this is a newb question, but what's the maximum size a city can attain, supposing it had the very best tiles for growth and you managed it perfectly? just curious.

largest i ever got was 41, that was in a chieftain game - i was the Americans and Washington was situated on a flood plain next to a lot of irrigated grassland (i didn't micro my workers for the longest time - dumb)

Oh, someone figured it out, and not to long ago. You need all floodplains, with wheat on them. It's some insanely large number, like 81 or so. Wouldn't happen naturally, you'd need to do it in the editor.

I'll browse for it, see if I can find it.

Found it.

Some wierd things I've noticed.

  • very balanced food. When managing that much that would seem tough.
  • shouldn't the grannery be bigger?
  • more taxmen than citisans
  • ALL happy
  • Still in 1500 someings
  • Still in industriul age
It feels photoshoped. I've seen some INCREDIBLE photoshopes. Go to worth1000.com.

No, it's just another one of those strange graphics games again (I still don't know what the games with different graphics are, the real graphics look better). Also, I got it right! I calculated (with math) the largest a city could get and I got 71! It's probably easier to do the math than try it out in the editor.

Of course there's going to be more taxmen than citizens. You can only have twenty citizens working at the same time (max city radius size). I don't quite know what you're saying on the second thing. Most experts get to the Modern Age by the 1500's and it's still in the Industrial Age. So what? I had a city that was 36 before entering the Modern Age.

The largest city I've ever had is in my current game, Nineveh, size 37, will grow in 7 turns, 14 flood plains squares, including 2 with wheat, 1 hill, 5 deserts, all with railroads and all irrigated. I shoot for production more so if I irrigated the deserts it could technically grow larger faster, but since it's far away from my palace or fp I need to maximize production out of it.

I'm milking the game, science is set to 0%. The only AI that is left is on a 3 tile desert island with 0 units. All the techs that are left to learn won't help make the score any higher. It's a real game city, I didn't change anything.

Everone is happy because I have every lux, temp, cat, col. + var. happy wonders!

Maybe you can't make a big city without photoshope, But I can.

Edit: I add the file for the turn after I won. You can see I didn't fake the city.

Very large city like this one should spawl onto mulitple tiles, to make them look even more impressive and perhaps, more productive.
