Skeletons from barrows?

Having played only one game, so I might be wrong, but...

I haven't noticed a skeleton emerging from any barrow. Not once in over 500 turns (marathon, obviously).

Either I got extremaly lucky (or unlucky, if you take the free xp perspective), or there is some mechanic change we haven't been told about (read: bug).
 
I had a bunch of skeletons attacking me in my recent game (and so far, besides scenarios, only "epic" game), although I didn't see from where they came but I assume a barrow somewhere (haven't explored that much yet, early in the game).

I've played a few marathon scenarios, and they seem to be working fine, of course their spawn is random, so it could just the laws of randomness are giving you a seriously biased streak of no spawns ;p

I'm getting skeletons from barrows, no problems there.

What surprised me is I got a great engineer from exploring (and clearing) a barrow. That's a pretty strong boon on turn 49 of a game.
 
I've noticed that barrows, lairs, etc. don't seem to be guarded anymore.

But they do still spit out units.

On the other hand, they don't need to guard them anymore, at least not so much, since you must "Explore" it to remove it and then (almost) anything can happen.

I find this to be hit or miss with some guarded (ruins too) and some not. It is aggravating to approach one with a Scout only to have a Skeleton/Lizardman spawn on the barrow just before you get there.

I found that too, occassionally finding lairs guarded and other undefended. Goblin Forts always seem to have two or three Scorpian Clan Archers/Wolf Riders defending the lair though. I notice if a barrow/ruins lies near my city skeletons/Lizardmen attacks are pretty common.
