Sloops for n00bs! - You get a better chick, with a Brig ...

I was using a Brig, but I just happened upon a Ship of the Line so I think I'll be using that from now on. :)

-> Dreadnought, spanish don't use the SoTL. You have to annoy someone else.

At some point I too started using the war canoe tactic rupertlittlebea mentioned. Actually I rarely shoot at anything. Only those ships that really threaten me. I just ram most of them with full speed and board the intact ship. More profitssssss.

Where do you find SotL? I can't find one, even though Spain has a 10,000 gold dubloon reward on my head :)
Have had 183,000 on my head!
heard of people having over a million.

You will have to do some real detective work, but . . .
now I may be wrong here, but . . .

Reward has little to do with their sending out a SotL.

Use Sloops! If you don't damage the other ship so much, you can sell it for $$$!

Wait a second, there are ship of the line? How on earth do you find them?

Yeaaa Ive Had 675,000 on my head, O come on Spain it was only a few towns ............. welll all of South America too ............. and Mexico ..... :p

By the way what country is the easiest to get a Ship Of The Line From, o yea my RS and LF kick ass :goodjob:

HELLO ALL! Hope I'm in the right forum. As you can probably tell from my forum name, I've been playing Pirates lately and will be talking about it unless I migrate to the Civilization games. Two games I loved back in the Amiga days were Pirates, and Silent Service I and II. Happy to be rompin' and stompin' in the Carribean again. Sid Meier should publish another (later)version of Pirates! :goodjob:

It's technically not a Ship-of-the-Line, as it only () carries 48 guns, and a true SOTL carries at least 64 guns.

Yeah, but we're talking 1680's here. Back then, 48 is big.

I keep my LF when I cash out , because the Spanish like to build Royal Sloops as PirateHunters.

I find SoTL and war canoes a tie for best, but when sailing from place to place, SoTL is a good bit faster ( and bombarding Montalban, Raymondo into submission cuz' they never go to 100% damage lol ) so I just take a SoTL

If you like small turning radius, take a sloop or a smaller class.
If you like want firepower and ability to resist damage, choose a large warship.
The brig class unites IMO the worst properties of the other classes: It turns slowly and is easily damaged.

Agreed. At least the frigate class carries a lot of plunder and men.
