Smiley order

Is there anyway to change the smiley order so that they go first in first out instead of in some other kind of order? Allow me to illustrate:

If I type in this: :thumbsup:, you see .

But if I try to do it inside parens, which is something i use a lot, I try to type this: (blah blah blah :thumbsup:) to get my thumbsup smiley and close the parens, but instead get this:(blah blah blah ).

Is this something that's configurable in VBB, or do I just have to remember to put a space between the last colon and the close parens? The reason I ask is I've had to go back plenty of times and edit a post because of something like this, and I'll be the first to admit I'm just too lazy. . . .

I think that happens with all the small smilies like : p, : ( etc It may be that they are the standard smilies or simply be based on size so that the smallest (length of writing) smilies are created first.

put a space behind the : and you're fine:

or do as you have done in your example and use '[b][/b]' before the ')'

One way that I've seen this issue dealt with elsewhere is to have the smiley codes set by the admin so that they are no longer bookended by the colons, but merely prefixed. ie. :thumbsup

I imagine converting them all to this format would be a fairly tedious process for TF though... perhaps when the fabled upgrade to vBulletin 3.0 occurs?
