tl;dr version
BtS becomes unstable/buggy/crashy at a specific turn/year
vanilla civ 4 & warlords work fine however
HALP! :(

Hello folks, wasn't sure where else to try and find some help for this, so here I am.

Basically, my game crashes - but its a bit more odd than that. I managed to save the game on the turn before it becomes unstable.

Running: Beyond The Sword patched to 3.19 and using the Unofficial 3.19 patch from this very website (my problem occurs with or w/o the unofficial patch)

system specs: Intel quad core 2.4, 2gb of ram, geforce 8800 gts 512
windows xp (fully updated)
vid card is latest driver.

The save game is turn 530 - January - 12060 bc
Playing the earth ice age scenario - Epic - Noble

What happens is when i click to end turn and the next turn (531) starts, the game bugs out.

The gold display at the top left above the Event Log is gone. The current turn + year information at the top right, gone. The current research tech progress bar/info at the top of the screen, gone.

Hover over info is also no longer displaying. That is, normally when you hover your mouse over terrain, or a unit - info about the unit/terrain etc is normally shown, transparent, at the bottom left just above the interface.

When i go into a cities manager/planner screen, the left and right interface is completely gone. I can only select what to build at the bottom.

Can't toggle the leader score display.

If i try to click on or open the Event Log, the game then crashes to my desktop. If i try to save, the game crashes. I can however issue orders and play the turn out. and then end the turn.

The next turn, everything goes back to normal - except two things:

First: at the top right, game is showing im on turn 532 - january 12059 BC. Shouldnt it be 12058 bc?

Second: game still crashes if i try to click or open the Event Log.

This cycle of buggy - normal turns repeats itself, until (i guess) the game has had enough and every turn is a buggy turn. Some turns i can save, other turns it crashes when i try to save.

I have tried reinstalling and playing through BtS 3x now, run into the same bug at the same exact turn/year.

Thanks.

So i pulled up the event viewer info for the crash:

anyone? anyone?

I'm no tech expert but does your game fail only if you use the unofficial patch or with the unpatched game? If the latter, something is corrupted and you probably need to reinstall. If only with the patch, you might try asking in the discussion subforum for the the patch in Creation and Customization forum.

happens with or without the patch

I have played through to the same exact turn/year 3x, first time was without the unofficial patch, last two times was with.

I reinstalled the game after the first and second playthroughs.

is it possible all three installs were corrupted? if yes...what is it? my ram?

If you are playing mods that are not installed by default, i.e. in the official expansions, then it pays to install Civ 4 as per my thread.

I had to follow my own instructions recently and they worked a treat on my new Win 7 x64 SSD drive.

Thanks for the reply

I will give it a try but to be honest at this point it feels like a lost cause :x
