So I like denouncing people

It's no mistake that denouncements are there in the game for the express purpose of providing diplomatic amusement to the long hours spent in the game itself.

Like this game of Archipelago/Small Continents, I started off "next" (as in separated by ocean and whatnot) to Persia, India and Inca. Hark, came the Incans one fine day to initiate first contact, and this got off to a rocky shore when "Pachacuti the Great" stated outright that he was glad to meet other Pachacutis of "inferior civilizations". Being American, this was the greatest insult ever bar a surprise attack or denouncement.

So I immediately denounced him, and for a long time in the Classical and Medieval periods Pachacuti was immensely hostile towards me. Kept on shooting in messages like the classic "I thought you might like to know you're army is on the weak side. Better watch your back." It did take him awhile to get around to "Just so you are aware, the other leaders have now heard the grim truth about you"

Yes, quite, the grim truth of calling you out on your racist ways. So I added in that he was a weak-willed ill spined leader unfit to rule any kingdom at all (don't settle my lands), and he flipped off his handle on the table. Literally flipped off.

Denoucement are actually ver useful to slidify 'alliances'.

While playing as Kamehameha few hours ago Sejong was the only civilization for a long time that managed to get ahead of me in points, and because I felt threatened by him I actually ended up denouncing him after my DoF with him expired, soon after, several civilizations began denouncing him too.

Also its a way for the AI to see how you are thinking because they have no idea what is going on in our heads. I usually stay silent all game and keep to myself.

Denouncing other Civs won't get you any friends. Not for long anyways.

Not denouncing other Civs won't get you any friends either.

Just kill them.

I have fun by denouncing that other civ who's weaker than me on the same continent, then making all sorts of demands every turn.

You dare to threaten me again so soon? I refuse your demands you vile beast.

Yeah I'm the vile apocalyptic Third Beast of America.

By jumping on the denouncement wagon you solidify the alliances that form in-game. Of course, these alliances will dissolve asac, and I often find myself on the side of the villian; and am myself usually a menace to the world... Once Iron comes online (warrior rushes are rarely a good idea, but sometimes impossible to pass up...) I start hitting my neighbors, if only to weaken them for leisurely annexation later. City-states actually have a better survival rate in my games... too many penalties associated with capturing them.

yep denouncements are essential in controlling diplomacy (i.e. dogpiling anyone dangerous)
