So wait what is this?

It still is technically an expansion pack as well, despite being a standalone game, since it expands upon Civ4's game engine. At the same time, however, it is separate from Civ4 and isn't like Warlords or Beyond the Sword.

It's like the original Col, a complete new game based on the kernel of Civ.

the original one was aaaasum, so this should prove no exception.

It's not an expansion pack...
A lot of games share the same engine (especially true in First Person Shooter games) : you don't look at them saying they are expansions of each other...

Colonization and Civlization are two turn-based strategy games, both written by Sid Meier and sharing the same game-engine. But they are two different games !

Like Blackjack and Poker : same engine (cards), same overall mechanics (chance, skill, cards counting...) but in the end, two different games. ;)

Iam really glad they use the Civ4 engine, its really the best and all Civ4 players out will instantly know how to play with the interface.

Is it going to be exactly the same game as the original Colonization, just with new graphics? Or are they putting new game mechanics/concepts in?

Is colonization going to have the features of the vanilla, warlords or/and BtS games? Or is it really a stand-alone game?

Various previews have already mentioned a few things that shall be different then in the original colonization: You can now make defensive pacts with the Native Americans and when you declare independence can you choice between a few options, like whatever you shall be a monarchy or a republic and if you allow slavery or ban it.

Personally do I think that the new colonization shall differ as much from the previous colonization; as the civilization sequels differ from each other.

It's just another game using civ 4 engine.
I think, the main reason sid meier do this is, he doesn't want to ignored the old loyal fans that use computer.
He doesn't want them to jealous.
So he made the remake of colonization.

The civ 4 name for me is just for the marketing

Quake4 expands upon Doom3 engine, yet it isn't expansion pack.

As for Colonization, it does not expand Civilization gamplay in any way (it creates completly new gamplay based on classic Colonization), so calling it expansion pack is misleading.
