Sorry if this has been asked by every Mac user in the universe, but...

When is the Editor prog due out, and if it's ready, where can I download it? URL of probable web site please, would also help.

I've downloaded the 1.21g update - is it included in that?

Thanks everyone.

Basically, based on the information currently public,
- It could conceivably be released tomorrow. Note that I don't claim this is likely, just that nothing we currently know says it couldn't be.
- It could well be next month, especially if key people take a week or so off for Christmas.
- It's not impossible it could be even later if some last-minute hard-to-track-down bug is suddenly discovered.

So my point is basically that you should neither hold your breath nor speculate until Brad or Macsoft say something more.

Well, since I'm out of town from the 26th through the 31st and classes start up again on the 2nd, if it isn't tomorrow it won't make much difference to me whether it's before Christmas or not.

I skulked around the MacSoft website (now a subsidiary of Infogrames), and I couldn't stand it anymore. I sent in this request in via their site:
ISSUE DESCRIPTION
I'm having a difficult time editing scenarios. In fact, I'm missing the main
tool for the job. I know Brad is hard at work on the editor, but on the Civ
III Downloads - Mac page, there isnt even a hint of the editor. Not a whiff.

The questions:
1.) Where will the editor be posted? On the Civ III Downloads - Mac page? On
the Civ.com site?
2.) When will the editor be posted? How long will the approval process take?
Can we get an unapproved beta posted immediately? Mere moments make a
difference...

Thanks,
EJ
They answered promptly (points for them), but it was a bit terse and profoundly un-userfriendly.

Erik,

The Editor will be available as a download at a later date. When it is
available, we will post the information, both here and on our automated
phone system at 425-398-3085.
So, there you have it: "at a later date." Man, you can just feel the love, can't you? I've gotten warmer, more informative feedback from the CIA's PIO...

hey, what do you expect? we're only waiting about one year... let's give them some more and we will get the editor, the day that "Civ IV" for windows will be released ...

I hate to tell you, but that is word-for-word the same message as is posted at the Infogrames support page for Civ 3. You can witness the cruel indifference here.

So it is. I have a vague memory of seeing that, now that you remind me. I feel a bit sheepish...

Hm.

No wonder they were so fast on the reply. At least they personalized it, though:
Dear [fill in the blank],

The Editor will be available as...

Despite Brad's reassuring words that there were only a few issues to address, then MacSoft approval, then release, I have some doubts about the editors immediacy. The recent holiday I am sure meant not much work occurred last week or will this week. Adding to that, Westlake Interactive's Project Status page still has the editor listed as "Beta" and they seem to be pretty good about updating that. That being said, I think we might have a while to go yet.

It's in "final candidate" now. I can see about getting the website updated, but given that most everyone is in flux with New Years and MacWorld next week, I'm not sure that it would mean anything.

You guys sure are a pessimistic bunch. ;)

Realists, Brad. Your occasional updates are the only thing keeping a lot of us realists from being pessimists.

And we thank you.

Considering that we Mac users have been treated as second-class citizens by Infogrames the whole time, what would you expect????

I don't know if you play civ3 on a mac, but if you did you might understand why we're so down at the time...

To be perfectly honest Brad, I believe we have some justification for that. ;) ;)

It reminds me of when I had dial-up Internet access, and the closer a file was to being completely downloaded, the slower my connect would get, so that the time remaining at 25% done was more or less the time remaining when 95% done. Not that I am saying that is the case here...

It's just another example of the 90-90 rule of programming - the first 90% of the project takes 90% of the time and the last 10% takes the other 90% of the time. :D

funny thread, a lot of wimpy kind of suck up writing tho when it comes to this editor and ptw thing- just a game-computer guys are notorious for their " smarter than you" attitude and of course you would see this clearly and pronounced on any computer issue.
