So where IS the freakin' patch!?!?

Yeah, I've been kind of wondering myself. My guess is that they are trying to decide what should be immediately fixed and what could wait until a second or third more thorough patch. As a result of some indecision here, they haven't got any firm release date for a patch, not even amonst themselves. I've seen similar things in software departments I've worked in.

I guess they're trying to fix more bugs than just pumping out a patch a day and I'll have to keep on upgrading.

Hope you're right and I get my so needed stacked movement.

i've put it on the shelf myself. back to civ2 ww2 scenario where the air fighters work!

i think they should change some tech. advance rules of civilization where it goes the other way around and u start out with a good video game in the late 20th century and by 2050 it turns into a pile of puke. citizens will remain unhappy during this era.

rpg - THAT was funny!

I thought everyone was saying a patch would be released end of Nov? This may no longer be true of course, but has anyone heard anything official?

It would be nice to have a quick playabilty patch and then another patch for the clearly unfinished features and then the multiplayer patch sometime in the early spring.

Also, it would be nice if they would publish an officially reported bug list so that we do not have to inundate them with repeated e-mails about the same bug...

Can you imagine reading 200 e-mails about air superiority problem? (I sure can - there are at LEAST 200 posts about it here...) Those poor souls spending an hour writing the perfect description of a bug that may or may not have already been fixed in a patch?

Goodluck all

I believe Faraxis should come up with a patch as soon as possible. So what if the first patch does not correct everything? I have been playing Ultima Online for the last 4 years (at 10 bucks a month its equal to 8 copy of Civ3 collectors' edition:eek: ) and we have patches almost every month to improve the playablity and a major upgrade (which come in CD and you have to pay for it :p ) every year.

So...if you are reading this Faraxis....give us our first patch soon!!!

I totally agree that a patch to correct some of the more serious problems should be forthcoming. When I purchased Tropico some time ago, there were three constructive patches within a month. I expected a little more from Sid and Firaxis, and have to say I am somewhat disappointed.

Also, the Infogrames Civ information center does not seem all that helpful, and is advertising their own version of a strategy guide.

Nontheless, Civ3 is an awesome program, with even greater potential once problems are addressed. I have sent email to Firaxis and Infogrames concerning a possible patch, but have received no reply as yet.

All we can do here is to continue to ask for a patch.

Same thing shelved it until i get a patch.

Can there be a miracle so we get the patch before thanksgiving.
I was planing to play all weekend but without a patch it wont be
that fun.

Firaxis get yourself togeheter and release a patch....PLEASE!

The funny thing is that you already set the game aside, in the meanwhile i'm still waiting for it to hit the Italian stores...

If it means that when you actually do get it, all the bugs and badly implemented features are corrected, you'll save yourself a lot of frustration.

On another note. I just finished fighting a 6 turn modern war with Egypt and captured 2 hard fought cities including its Capital. Guess what? Both flipped back to Egypt the turn immediatly after!

GOD F***ING DAMNIT. I JUST SPENT 6 TURNS TRYING TO HANDLE WAR WEARINESS FOR NO REASON BECAUSE THE URANIUM I CAPTURED IS NOW BACK IN EGYPTIAN HANDS. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. I WAS WACKING THEM IN CULTURE AND THEIR CAPITAL WAS MINE.

In other words, have some &^*&^ patience already. Oh wait, this is 5the ADD generation. It *will* get patched and fixed up, just not as fast as you'd like. And you know what? You'll have to live with it.

Not very freakin hard to do when we are bombarding the forums and their email with defects in Airsuperiority, costal fortresses, SAM batteries and so on.

Not very freakin hard to do when it is so goddamn obvious that that your fighters don't intercept any sh*t that comes through.

Duh... maybe the 4 or 5 obvious bugs where the units and improvements don't work as advertised?

4. recode

It takes 3 weeks to recode these bugs when other companies solve fatal crash bugs, feature bugs and then on top of that ADD new user requested features in the same period of time?

Either they don't care or are a bunch of idiots.

Wow, my fighters actually intercept now! I think its fixed! Seriously, even a slow guy like me gets a full game done in a week. With an entire QA department who's job is to test the game, I find it pretty freakin hard to justify 3 WEEKS and STILL NO PATCH for OBVIOUS BUGS.

Why not as fast as we would like. Does Sid Mier's company get extra slack from all the other companies who don't have Sid's reputation? That is bullsh*t. It is not as if they are following industry standards with the time of thier patches. They are either being lazy or they don't care. And you know what? I might have to live with it but I can sure as hell COMPLAIN since NOTHING is being fixed. And you know what YOUR going to have to live with that too.

The only thing worse than the state of the game is the fact that somehow, there are Firaxis butt lickers like you out there.

Hehe. If I were Firaxis I would sell the patch for $10. And then sell our "Multi-Player CIV III" for $60. You know why? Because you WILL buy it. You'll take it right in the pooper, smile, and then whine for another. I hope Firaxis reads this and laughs.

Whoa there Mike C you sound like you're gonna blow over the top, no point in doing that. There are people out there who are unsatisfied with the game right now and are complaining, yes complaining to Firaxis and posting in this forum (like 4 out of every 10 new threads) about their ideas, bugs and such. Don't worry you guys are being heard but, BUT the majority are behind Sid and the game (hey, civfanatics' forum, what d'ya expect here, cowboys?!!) so no point saying someone's a butt licker (yuck!).

Anyway, chill, being so worked-up's not gonna get you (or your demands) anyway. So stay.. cool

Well, it would be healthier for all of us if the guys at Firaxis(playtesters?who needs them, anyway?) would do all of the 5 steps above BEFORE publishing the game!

Actually I never heard of Firaxis or Sid Mier before Alpha Centurai (which I hate), but anyways....

I've play tested 4 games. In every case, the developement company sent the game versions to the publisher. In 3 of those instances, they had declared them to be release candidates. But it was the publisher who declared them 'gold'. Twice, the developement company continued work on the game without a break. Those times, guess what....a patch pretty damned quick. Twice, the developement company took a break, and it took a while for the patches.

However, in all cases, once a RC for the patch was submitted to the publisher it was up to them to decide to release it or not. Out of control of the hands of the developer.

Shrug. What are you going to do? We all want the perfect game, but yet we all know there will never be any perfect game, whether Civ 3 or anything else.

Mike C and Pana - nice posts

Hey TD even though you have only posted a few times and I am not giving you a hard time about being a newbie(because it is likely that you aren't) you should probably realize that fanboys that think thier favorite game designer can do no wrong is just as bad (or worse) than the people who say, "where is the patch?"

Its been close to a month now right? At least a couple of weeks anyways... the thing you should keep in mind is that most companies are already working on thier first patch as soon as the game goes gold(which add s a couple of more weeks to thierpatch life cycle).

The fact that they didn't have a patch for air support and some of the other flaky things that could be fixed quickly is just proof that there is something going wrong here...

I have to admit though that this brings back the good old days of Front page Sports Football 99. Every fanboy on the board was saying,"Stop complaining! Andre will fix it! He is the greatest! They will have a patch out in no time..."

then they had a recall of the game because it was so messed up...

Thank goodness Civ3 isn't as bad as FPS99!

ps-if any advertisers want to use the line above for a quote in one of thier ads - please acknowledge the source

Hey here is another goodone...

Civ3 hyped more than Daiktana, but not as bad. With a lot of work it will be another legendary chapter in a great game franchise!

I wonder if mechanized infantry sounds will be fixed... very minor issue, but very annoying, at least to me (I'm a realism nut).

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, Civ3's model for mechanized infantry is M2 Bradley IFV, armed with a 25mm chaingun and TOW missiles (currently being upgraded to TOW-2, and will be fitted with future TOW-X), but the sound it makes while attacking is of an ordinary large-caliber cannon, more along the lines of it's Russian counterpart, BMP-3.
