Nerd is a term highly misunderstood. People seem to think that nerds are antisocial, ugly, and generally live on computers, only think about similar electronics, and only have friends that share the exact same interests.
BAH!
I am a nerd.
I have several friends, even a girlfriend (who knows I am a nerd).
Most of my friends are, if anything, barely computer literate. But, I don't hold it at all against them, they jsut aren't interested in it as I am.
I am not scared to talk with women in person.
I actually prefer talking with my girlfriend either in person or on the phone than through IM programs, and in fact I find such programs to be incredibly boring and impersonal (referring to anyone I talk with).
Though I wouldn't call myself handsome or dreamy, I must, without any use of pride, say that I look fairly good...well, I need a haircut...and anyways, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and ugliness and better used as a description of personality.
I don't wear glasses, though if the right style is worn glasses can look quite good on most people.
And though I am thin, I am not unhealthily so. I just have a high metabolism.
And I don't always think about computers, nor sex (as is also a common nerd stereotype). In fact, I probably think about sex less than most men, but it just isn't a big thing in my life (actually, it won't be anything in my life until I get married).
I am a nerd. I use and know computers more extensively than most. That's all.
As an added note, I define nerd as merely a state of mind and slight prioritizing of interests in favour of computers. The definition given above me (with nasal voice, thick glasses, etc), I would define as an extreme, stereotypical nerd. Nerdism is really more of a gradient than a set definition.
