Now this is a bit of teaser for my new Fallout inspired NES, much like Beginning of the World As We Know It. It's essentially the same ruleset with a few tweaks and an impressive new RNG/simulation system for background running. For those concerned about what this could mean for Capto Iugulum, no worries. I'm planning on using the Fallout system to test ideas about system management. In the meantime, I've been able to use it to play a game by myself, based on a faction in central Florida, which has been quite fun. With nowhere else to post this, here's my first (and probably only) SoloNES. Some of it may make more sense once the ruleset has been posted tomorrow afternoon, but here's my own game as it is. I’m probably going to update this as I play, as it has been a fun way to pass the internetless time, and I’ll probably play a few more than the 20-some turns I already have.

Below is the story of the Edgewood Militia as they struggled to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. What you are seeing here is the solo run of my new Fallout ruleset which is heavily RNG and system oriented that I did while waiting for the restoration of internet to my main computer. The fact that I was able to do this while being surprised and frustrated is a testament to the stability and objectiveness of the current ruleset. Furthermore, the automation involved has made the game far more fun for me. There are two exceptions: First, I'm not doing Overseer's Challenges, as they require a moderator to do correctly, and second, the map is only Florida and some surrounding areas, which I feel to be more than enough for my purposes. Enjoy.

Faction Name: Edgewood Militia
Leader Name: Gorly Araynn
Leader Trait: Lucky
Starting Location: Edgewood, Florida, USA
Leader Background: The latest in a line of leaders of a local militia in Central Florida. He has managed to hold his community together through luck more than any particular skill, and now, after decades of defending the community, has begun to search out new resources and wealth from the wasteland.
Origins: Survivors
Traits: Expansionist
Capital Type: Pre-War Community
Background: The Edgewood Militia was established minutes after the first nuclear weapons hit Central Florida, destroying society and killing millions. Edgewood was sparred any direct hits itself, and the community was forced to do its best to deal with waves of refugees heading south from the much larger city of Orlando, which had been hit. In the decades since the Great War, the Edgewood Militia has been successful in protecting their community from raiders and monsters, and have miraculously avoided further devastation. With the population growing once more, and other factions likely to emerge, the Militia has begun looking towards expansion and the restoration of a lost America throughout the state.

Events

Lakes throughout south Orlando area turn out to be radioactive, but within the range of purification if proper facilities were established.

Fort Gatlin was investigated, but proved to be too radioactive to enter without specialized equipment.

Southern Orlando was investigated, and only moderate levels of radiation existed, allowing for free exploration and scavenging of the area. The region is lacking any human life, and only various types of wasteland monsters live in the ruins, forcing the expedition to fight in order to scavenge. A moderate amount of Scrap Parts were recovered as well as a solitary Tech Part.

Results

A new forge was constructed in Edgewood, allowing for the turning of Scrap Metals into sophisticated, though medieval, weapons of war.

The South Orlando Expedition was attacked by monsters, and without arms, a large number were killed, though eventually the creatures were driven off by coordination and numerical advantage. Very little was found in this expedition, only a fairly low amount of scrap salvage was brought back.

The Expedition to the University of Central Florida found the area bereft of any life beyond a few scattered birds and the odd creature. The area was fairly low in radiation, safe enough for regular travel and exploration. Unfortunately, the area was deemed worthless for farming, and all local water sources were too heavily contaminated with radiation, though the land itself wasn't. A few tech parts were salvaged, as well as plenty of scrap, but overall the area was considered to be tapped out, with nothing remaining of value.

The scavengers in eastern Orlando stumbled into a nest of local monsters, leading to a violent battle and over a dozen deaths of the unarmed. Several other attacks took place as the scavenging continued to a lesser degree, and the work continued. A substantial amount of scrap was salvaged from the area and brought back to Edgewood.

The scavengers sent to western Orlando were surprisingly unmolested by the local creatures, and allowed to continue with their work. They were also able to accumulate a large amount of scrap, returning the stockpile to the base in Edgewood.

The Expedition to South Orlando was uneventful, avoiding confrontation with local wildlife. An old computer store was discovered and numerous Tech Parts were liberated along with quite a bit of scrap.

The Expedition to West Orlando came under heavy attack by an apparently organized group of hundreds of ghouls, leading to very heavy casualties, which were only barely repulsed by those who survived the attack. The survivors were triumphant and continued scavenging despite their losses. They were rewarded not just with scrap, but also with a handful of intact Tech Parts.

The Expedition to East Orlando was uneventful, avoiding any local confrontations. Unfortunately very little of value was found, except for a limited amount of salvageable Scrap Parts.

Results

New farming equipment is built, and has proven fairly effective at its task in the fields of Edgewood.

Expedition to South Orlando is fairly quiet, region has been mostly emptied of hostile creatures. Very little has been left to salvage, only scrap parts. It is widely agreed that the southern metropolitan Orlando area has been tapped out of any usable resources.

Expedition to West Orlando was also quiet, and the region's hostiles have since departed or been slain by previous expeditions. As the expedition was sorting through the scant remnants of scrap, a massive refrigerated food storage was found amid the rubble. Within the surprisingly large compound was many square yards of prepackaged foodstuffs ready to be eaten and still good. In addition to tech parts and scrap salvaged, a tremendous haul of this Pre-War food was brought home. Unfortunately, it is likely that this last, but greatest gift will be the last that West Orlando has to offer, as anything worth taking has been salvaged by this and prior expeditions.

The Expedition to East Orlando also avoided any confrontations, and was able to quietly go about its business. Unfortunately all that was recovered was local usable scrap, which has been brought back to Edgewood for use.

The Expedition to North Orlando reported seeing possible hostiles, but managed to avoid any confrontation as they began the scavenging of this previously untouched area. Only scrap was recovered and brought home to Edgewood.

A small but significant stockpile of bottled water was found in the home of one of the deceased residents of Edgewood this year, added to the town's stores, and providing succor for many.

-Send 100 Unarmed, 100 Low-Tech Melee to scavenge in East Orlando.

Results

New purifying and pumping plant is brought online with maximum efficiency, providing a massive surplus of purified water for the use of the town.

The expedition south to the outskirts of the Walt Disney World properties found that the Bay Lake region suffered direct nuclear hits and what was hoped to be farmland was instead worthless wasteland. However, in an odd twist of fate, the local Bay Lake from which the area took its name was found to have only the lightest inherent radioactivity. Quite a few radioactive monsters were found in the region, but they seemed to leave the expedition as a whole alone. Unfortunately only a smattering of Scrap Parts were discovered and returned to Edgewood intact.

The Expedition to North Orlando met with heavy resistance from a large nest of ghouls that was discovered, leading to some casualties, though the attacks were mostly repulsed. The expedition itself finished clearing out the highly damaged area, and recovered some intact Tech Parts. With a substantial amount of scrap also recovered, it has been confirmed that the area has been tapped out of any possible resources to be scavenged.

The Expedition to East Orlando was mostly unmolested and they were able to proceed with considerable salvaging efforts in the area's neighborhoods. They found a great boon with their exploration, stumbling across what apparently was the evacuation center for the University of Central Florida. All the assets which had been present in that university had been shifted to the west, and an immense amount of Tech Parts were recovered from this untouched stockpile.

-200 Low-Tech Melee to scavenge in East Orlando.

Results

A new reactor was brought online in Edgewood itself, providing some limited local power, though it was a fairly low functioning device.

Expedition to Williamsburg and the Shingle Creek area was not attacked or threatened, and the expedition was able to go about its business. Beyond very limited local wildlife, there was no sign of any human or animal habitation in the area. The land was determined to be suitable for limited farming options, allowing increased food production for the militia as a whole, though the local water would require purification. A large amount of scrap was obtained and returned to the militia's base in Edgewood.

The East Orlando Expedition ran into trouble, fighting through a large amount of ghouls and other monsters which had been driven into these outskirts. Through force and with their swords, they triumphed, securing the location for scavenging. Clearly though, previous expeditions had already done their work too well, leaving very little for this group, except a fairly small amount of salvageable scrap.

Results

The expedition from Edgewood to the Williamsburg and Shingle Creek area began establishing new fortifications and limited farming areas to provide greater amounts of food for the Militia as a whole. The settlers came under heavy attack while establishing the new settlement, from a large band of raiders coming from the south. The raiders were using guns against the swords and axes of the settlers, and managed to inflict a harsh toll of casualties upon the young community. The raiders were eventually destroyed, and their weapons were seized by the new settlement. Scavenging was conducted throughout the area, and a substantial amount of scrap was recovered and added to the stockpiles of the new community.

The expedition sent to explore and scavenge the Universal Studios and Sea World theme parks, as well as the various other entertainment complexes in between, met with no real resistance during their journey there. Both the land and water in the region were viewed as too contaminated for settlement or usage in the long term reclamation of Florida. Overall, the radiation throughout the complexes was deemed too high for any entry, and the area should be avoided, even with anti-radiation equipment. On their return from this unsuccessful mission, the group came under heavy attack from raiders and were forced to defend themselves, resulting in light casualties. Some Low-tech melee weapons were recovered from the raiders' bodies, and were brought back as at least some spoils of this disastrous expedition.

Results

New farming equipment allows for greater exploitation of resources in New Williamsburg.

The journey to Hal Scott Regional Preserve came under attack by raiders during the travel to the east. The attackers did substantial damage, killing quite a few of the members of the expedition and a few escaped with captives. Unfortunately hopes were dashed for any type of settlement in the region as the terrain was deemed worthless for farming and the local waters were too contaminated by radiation. These claims were quickly refuted with the discovery of a large compound of raiders, calling themselves Hal's Angels. Survivors who had been captured in the recent raids, as well as other apparent prisoners were being held as slaves by the raiders. With superiority in numbers and weapons, the expedition attacked the raider compound, and with difficulty destroyed Hal's Angels and liberated the prisoners within. The compound was salvaged for goods and scrap, and the resulting weapons of the raiders and their own stockpiles have been brought back to Edgewood, along with the enslaved survivors. The return was thankfully forgettable, as the embattled warriors of the Militia returned home.

The westward expedition to Windermere came under an even heavier attack than their eastbound brothers in arms. They stumbled into a large amount of ghouls who attacked persistently, but they were repulsed and destroyed by the heavy firepower of the Militia with fairly light casualties. Testing allowed the expedition to determine that the area was fairly good for farming, definitely superior to the capacity of New Williamsburg. The local water was deemed to be decent, if purified. The town itself was fairly empty, with only a scant amount of wildlife and no signs of human habitation. A substantial amount of scrap was found, and a local computer store was looted for a large amount of tech parts to be brought home.

Unfortunately, while the expeditions were away, a minor raider attack was launched upon Edgewood, which was poorly defended as most of the armaments used for defense were deployed elsewhere. Thus, the raiders, despite their small numbers, were able to break in and cause damage and death to the inhabitants remaining. They managed to steal substantial supplies before being driven off by the remaining defenders.

-200 Low-Tech Melee, 1 Mr. Handy from Edgewood to travel to, scout, explore, and scavenge Sanford to the north.

Results

The journey to Cocoa Beach faced minor attacks from varied wildlife throughout the whole journey, causing several losses among the members of the expedition. The scouts reported that the Cocoa Beach region is incredibly worthless, and without value for farming. The entire area's water supply is highly radioactive and incapable of purification or otherwise any use. The area itself was full of radioactive feral ghouls, relentlessly attacking the expedition's members in a fierce fight as they attempted to scout and scavenge the area. The expedition successfully found a large amount of tech parts and scrap throughout the area, as well as finding a stockpile of civilian arms and munitions. All of the resources were brought back to Edgewood, while once more fending off the attacks of varied wildlife.

The expedition to Sanford also faced minor attacks in their journey from small amounts of wildlife, causing a number of minor losses. To the pleasant surprise of the expedition, the region surrounding Sanford turned out to be moderately acceptable for farming, while the lakes would require purification, but are still usable. A moderate amount of ghouls were found throughout the ruins, and the expedition was forced to clear them out in order to secure the area for salvaging. Unfortunately only a limited amount of scrap parts were found and brought back to Edgewood for use.

In Edgewood, while the expeditions were away, an unfortunate misfire of a heavy weapon resulted in the unfortunate spilling of a large amount of water from a damaged holder. The supplies were lost though plenty remain in the town's stockpiles.

After years of work and labor, with the food supplies of the Edgewood Militia creating a surplus, a brief moratorium was called upon scouting expeditions. Immigration was encouraged and a break was offered for those veterans of past expeditions, being allowed to remain at home.

New Williamsburg had a boon, when a nearby untouched major stockpile of bottled water was discovered, increasing the faction's overall water supplies.

The Cocoa Beach expedition once again encountered light opposition from wildlife during the journey east, and suffered similarly light casualties fending them off. The expedition itself found very little remaining in the Cocoa Beach area, and have assembled what scrap they could, which turned out to be a hefty amount. The sites themselves have been determined to be emptied of any remaining worth and are considered to be tapped out of resources for the Militia. The journey back was plagued with even more attacks and fighting, resulting in more casualties as the meager last haul from Cocoa was returned.

The expedition to Sanford had inordinate difficulty travelling along the ruined highways through Orlando, facing attacks by raiders operating somewhere in the ruins. The raiding party was of course defeated, and their weapons were seized by the expeditionary group from Edgewood. In Sanford, no significant objects of any value were discovered, but a decent amount of scrap was acquired for transit home. The journey home was less difficulty, facing only minor attacks from wildlife rather than any more organized bandit raids.

While the expeditions were away, Edgewood once more came under attack by a substantial raider force. With the community's significant stockpiles of small arms and heavy weapons, the raiders were destroyed, and their arms confiscated with surprisingly limited losses among the defenders of the town.

A similar raider attack was launched upon New Williamsburg, which was fairly easily repulsed, and the raiders were wiped out.

Results

The group moving to Windermere was thankfully not harassed by any wildlife or raiders and was able to set up the new community in the region fairly quickly. They established new farms to support the settlement, providing new growth, and looking towards a more prosperous nation. The local region was thoroughly scavenged and salvaged, providing new parts to the growing community, but it is clear that not much more will be scrounged from the thoroughly pillaged area

In New Williamsburg, unfortunately radroaches got into the harvest silos, spoiling half of the crops taken in from this year's harvest.

The expedition sent to Patrick Air Force Base was surprised and destroyed by a substantial force of raiders, outnumbering them and using small arms and rifles to inflict heavy casualties. With no firearms of their own, the expedition and their robots were devastated by the firepower of the enemy, leading to the near total destruction of the expeditionary force. Only a handful of survivors managed to escape, with others being taken off to the raiders' unknown base. The rest were forced to abandon the expedition and return home to great mourning and loss.

Still recovering from the disastrous expedition to Patrick Air Force Base, the Edgewood Militia remained behind their walls, recovering from the devastating blow. Searching locally, the Militia returned to South Orlando to find new sources of Scrap Parts that had been previously missed when the Militia first salvaged the region.

The Raiders who wiped out the Patrick AFB expedition at last made their appearance known once more, striking at the town of New Williamsburg in massive force. The raiders were devastating in their attack, once more wielding firearms against the town, though this time, a few guns responded in kind. The raid was repulsed, and a few weapons were recovered from the bodies, but mostly the raiding party escaped intact, though without any prizes from the defended community.

Orders
-1 Energy and 5 Tech Parts to build 1 Protectron.
-195 Low Tech Melee and 5 1-H Guns to scout and scavenge Apopka.

Results

The expedition sent to Apopka was mercifully free of any attacks from wildlife or raiders on their way there. The area actually proved to be suitable for very limited farming, while the lakes in the area were almost pure with a lack of any substantial amounts of radiation present. A few monsters were present, but were slain with very few casualties among the expedition. The expedition was fortunate enough to find an intact gun shop with pistols and ammunition to be salvaged and brought back to Edgewood. The guns found use on the way back, to dispatch some monsters which attacked the group.

In other news, water being sent from Edgewood to Windermere was intercepted by raiders, though the carriers of the water managed to get away by abandoning their stock. Extra water was sent to replace that which was lost.

The Expedition to Apopka met heavy resistance from ghouls in downtown Orlando during their journey north, causing casualties and heavy fighting as the ghoul attacks were resisted. Quite a few were killed, but the ghoul attacks were repulsed in the march north. The expedition was only able to salvage some scrap parts for their trouble, returning home thankfully without any further difficulty.

In New Williamsburg, radroaches got into the food silos once more, causing a loss of part of the harvest once again.

At Windermere, another major raider attack was launched, and this time, there was some warning for the settlers within. The gates were shut, and the attempts to scale the walls were repulsed, and some firearms were used by the defenders. The raiders were nearly destroyed in their efforts and never made it into the town, being forced to retreat in disarray. Quite a few weapons were recovered from the battle and losses were fairly low considering the size of the raider attack.

The expedition to Apopka was attacked during their journey by a small amount of ghouls in Orlando, but the attackers were driven off with only a few left dead in their wake. Upon arriving in Apopka, the area was broken down, and quite a lot of scrap was recovered thanks to the assistance of the provided Mr. Handy robots. The return journey was uneventful and the new scrap was brought back to Edgewood without issue. Unfortunately, a lack of workers in the field lead to a minor shortfall in food production, as many who would have been working were sent away.

In Windermere, workers around the town were pleased to recover more scrap parts than previously expected in the region. The parts were recovered and shifted to the town's stockpile for future use.
