After patching (yesterday) game don't start at all. After trying to start there is window civ_starting.jpg and then nothing happens. When I'm verifying integrity of game cache there is information about two failed files validating.jpg, then acquiring, installing, starting and nothing happens again. I deleted local game content and downloaded it again but nothing changes.

There wasn't any changes of any software but only patch (configuration dxdiag.txt). I asked also at Steam support but my previous expierence is that they are slow and unhelpful as geriatric snails.

TIA,

Dunduks

Could you please post your dxdiag and we can take a look? Thanks!

Your graphics driver is 5 years old. Try updating that.

The patch changed some things, and requires more recent drivers.

You should be able to go to nvidia.com and get them.

but nothing changed.

Okay.

Looking at the screenshots and re-reading your first post, I'm a little confused. Are you actually clicking on the area that says "Sid Meier's Civilization V DirectX 9 (Recommended)", and it's not responding, or does it do anything when you click on that?

Looking at E:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\sid meier's civilization v there is not file CivilizationV_DX9.exe now (only CivilizationV.exe, DX11.exe and Tablet.exe), however before deleting all & downloading & installing there was DX9 file but nothing worked - when I tried to launch there was error error.jpg.

I can make icons on desktop with RMB click but nothing else.

That screenshot is for DirectX 11 mode. Your computer cannot run DirectX 11 mode (Windows XP is not compatible with it). So I would expect an error to happen.

Try to run CivilizationV.exe and see what happens.

Trying to run CivilizationV.exe from desktop ico (steam://rungameid/8930) there is same window civ_starting.jpg, trying to run from directory same error.jpg.

You're missing XP SP3.
And since the latest error does not seem to be civ related, I'd really suggest that you update your XP installation.

I'll upgrade OS but I can't understand why anytime I'm doing "verifying game cache' there is always same error message about two not verufued files and after updaring, installing there is that message anyway?! I can't see OS as reason for such behavior.
