Current game I'm playing, I was at war with the Japanese, and plowing through their cities one after another because they were lagging behind in technologies. So I control all cities but their capital, and I left a machine gunner behind in most of their cities, though I left a calvary or two in some because I couldn't ship the defensive units in quick enough to cover all the conquered land. Anyways, little Toku is down to a city and takes vassalage under Ragnar, his neighbor. Who then proceeds to move some calvary of his own through my stalwart machine gunner defense, taking two formerly Japanese cities and... razing them to the ground?
Not that I much cared, it's a long time before I can get those cities producing to the point of being all that effective anyways, but it seemed funny to me that you would liberate the city of an ally only to burn it to the ground. Just my strange story for the day, anyone with other similar odd experiences? Or does everyone else defend the land they conquer?
