Well. resource trading is good but surprise attacks or stealing sometimes are better.
But do it too often and you won't have no more trade.
I have an example from history, Phoenicians raded with the Pre-Numidians by this method (they didn't have interpreters):
once they saw smoke behind the hills of the shoreline they layed examples of their goods at the beach and went back in their ships, then the natives came to the beach evaluated and layed gold or other stuff and went away (if they liked one example they layed a lot of gold, so Phoenicians layed more lets say glassware) this went back and forth, until one party took it and went away, either taking goods with back with them and leaving the gold back or taking it and leaving the wares back. --> If the Phoenicians made good trades they would came back.
--->The natives wanted the Phoenicians to come back because they needed supply of their goods for inland trade so they offered good deals. Win-Win.
Once someone steals in this honored society he's kicked away from the table of the big stacks, so to speak.
I don't mind someone (AI) breaking trade deal towards me, I get more trade with the other AI.
And even I may do it from time to time, deceiving is nothing special in history.
After all, even trade wars exist, like America denying oil to Japan pre WW2, so not-trading can also be a reason for war.
