Some interesting XP-related questions

2, 5, 10, 17, 26, 37, 50, 65, 82, 101, 122, 145. I don't think I've ever gotten over 70, which would with a combat 5, flanking II cavalry unit in an always war game.

What's funny is that after awhile, you start only using highly promoted units in sure wins, just to get them more promotions. Which kind of defeats the purpose of them being your best units.

Personally, I would always use my best unit on the front line simply to achieve victory in the first place! (not necessarily just for XP).

Playing as a Chm leader, I've had 110 experience mounted units running around, but they had blitz and were unbeatable with C5 and a GG attached to boot. If you attach a Great General, by the way, you get the Leadership promotion available, which doubles the XP you gain from any combat.

I find that settling 2 or so Great generals in your main military city works best, if you take into account civics, buildings, etc... you can produce XP 13-17 units out the gate, which is enough for lvl 5 (again depending on what leader you're using), and I've often had C3 + Blitz battleships from such cities.
