Some kinda video problem

Okay so my Civ 3 -used- to work fine but in the last few weeks its gone haywire. About 75% of the time I can't get it to work now. When I start the program, my monitor's power light starts blinking and I get a brief message which says 'PC self diagnosis... Display settings correct?' and then it does nothing. The game still starts because I can hear the opening menu music but I no longer have any picture on my black black screen and the ONLY way to get my picture back for anything is to turn my computer off and then on for a restart.

I've tried closing other background programs. I've tried changing the compatibility in my Civ 3 properties. I've checked my driver updates and even uninstalled and reinstalled my game to be sure everything was installed properly and nothing's helped.

Has anyone else had this problem or have another way to solve the trouble?

Hmm, sounds like some kind of monitor/video-mode mismatch. :hmm:

Try adding the following lines to your civilization3.ini file:
KeepRes=1
PlayIntro=0

This will force the game to use your existing system resolution, and not change it to 1024x768, and by not playing the intro movie, you won't be forced into a videomode change for that, either.

Okay that didn't work, though now its working one in every three tries instead of four.
