Somebody obviously sees this project as a threat?

I have been on Steam for nearly 12 years and have never said a bad word or anything derogatory to anyone on any forum, ever.
Yesterday I was in the Civ 6 forum on steam and I was reading so many threads on how people are disappointed with the AI and the game in its current state as a whole.
I chipped in, saying it will get there in time as it took a few years Civ 5 to get anywhere good.
In the same sentence I praised this wonderful mod and hoped that one day the same would be done with Civ 6 once it is complete.
Then this morning I was on Steam again and I had received a message stating I had been banned from the forum for advertising.
Unbelievable. A clean sheet for 12 years and then I get banned for being positive about the Civ franchise.

That's a shame. You could try to appeal it.

Nevertheless modifications that improve an original aspect of a game are often tetchy subjects for developers and others. With the CP, we've done what Firaxis said it couldn't or wouldn't do. That's not always taken with a smile (I know, if the roles were reversed, I'd be mildly annoyed).

It's quite a threat, yes. I haven't purchased my civ6 copy yet. (not that I intended such thing until it drops prices under 20 bucks). I guess many others will think twice before expending money in a yet to improve product.

But it is unfair to make such comparisons. This mod is designed to please a wide community of players, not to make profit. And this one wouldn't exist without the other.

Honestly I've been annoyed with 2k/Firaxis ever since they refused to fully implement multiplayer mods. Forcing us to use workarounds that didn't exist when they left was a terrible move, and I'm unlikely to ever buy another product of theirs. I filed a BBB complaint with them a while ago about it too.

Everyone is allowed to feel their own way about whether or not 2k/Firaxis properly supported this game post-release or has scummy business practices, but that's where my feelings lie. If it wasn't for VP I'd have stuck to EU4 and other Paradox games exclusively for my grand strategy needs.

Thats sad!! really sad!!

i know other games like farming simulator that im playing with my son get a lot of mods from people, then in next release of the game i see all those mods
implemented in the game!! that is developers that listens to people rather so try make them shut up and instead making the game better!

more people should go to steam forum and talk about this mod!! one day maybye they listen!!

Civ 6 has MP mods. But no DLL and limited scripting support means all anyone can really do is fiddle with existing functionality and add art.

Yeah is is really sad. The thing is, whichever way you look at it, I was promoting their games. Whether it was Civ 5 or 6.
Going by what they did, it is obvious they have completely turned their back on Civ 5.
It was either Firaxis who banned me or a moderator who is running wild on the forum unchecked.
My message was very positive, and yet there are still threads there that are ripping Civ 6 to bits? Ah well.

Is it possible that said moderator mistook the mod for a full released game? Did you stated clearly this is a mod?

I really do not think that they would ban you for just discussing a mod. Did you post a link to it also?

Yep, I clearly stated a mod. I even got some highly favourable responses with people wanting to check it out. Then suddenly I was banned.

I can't, it was deleted. I wasn't initially going to post on there. I was just astounded with all the horrendous thread of people ripping into Firaxis and Civ 6. I added a positive thread and received many good responses. Then the thread was deleted, they obviously prefered all the toxic threads instead.

If you can appeal it, I would, or ask for a full explanation for the ban.
The ban was for advertising and being off topic? Personally, I thought I was helping them sell more Civ games, but they didn't see it that way.

If I go to the forum, this is what I see -

You have been banned from all Sid Meier's Civilization VI discussions
You have been banned by a forum moderator.
Reason: " Advertising isn't welcome, also, it's off topic for these boards."

LOL. It's that SamBC over in the steam forums, he's a bit touchy about stuff like that. I got banned a few months before Civ 6 was released on its pre-order steam forums simply for asking "Have you hired real coders this time so we can have an actual AI?".

They unban you soon enough though don't worry.

Anyway +1 for your original message though. Everytime I click community on steam for civ 5 a big advert comes up "Why not give civ 6 a try?" I put "I'll stick to Civ5+Vox Populi"

I love VP I'm really impressed at just extremely well thought-out and put together it is. Playing vanilla then VP side by side is like night and day.

Says something about the state of the gaming industry when a bunch of modders in their bedroom show more imagination, innovation and talent than the actual game's makers. It all boils down to heart and passion really

To be perfectly fair, that's like 12 steps over the line. You would probably get banned for saying that over here as well.

You're wrong considering I was asking a question based on fact.

Civ 5 didn't have an AI programmer, the lead designer "coded" the AI - a lead designer, which by the way, admitted in several articles had no experience in AI programming whatsoever.

So considering that fact, I thought it was a very fair question. Why would I want to pay £60 for a pre-order if they weren't going to hire an actual real AI coder this time? Which, by the way it turns out, they still didn't and thus pre-order was cancelled.

How is it out of line wanting to receive a product equal in value to the amount I pay for said product? Only way to know was to ask.

I've been an admin, not just a mod, but an admin of a fairly active board at one point in my life and I can say that unless they can perfectly cite actual encoded law with attached penalties and prove it (to the jury/admin/executives/whoever can make the call) that you broke it, then you're fine.

Besides, penalties for forum advertising only applies when you put a link, insert an advertising image, or any new method of explicit advertising I might be unaware of. I'm pretty sure mentioning a mod of the same game series(albeit older) doesn't apply here... No matter how much of a total conversion said mod is unless the game engine itself is modified...

Go appeal for yourself. In your case a moderator's professional conduct should be to wholly ignore you and let the post get buried, give a warning, or quietly delete your post.

Also, moderators can't permanently delete a post. Not even normal Forum Admins can, only the System Admin and whoever has equal access rights to the SA can do such a thing. The admin who will handle your appeal will certainly dig up your post and pass (fair) judgement. Fight on comrade!

P.S. If it's from "high-up" then either someone more high up needs to be involved or go to court but that's out of my scope
