I'm hoping somebody with MapStat (one that works) can run this file through for me and tell me how close I am to the Domination limit (China)...I have ten years remaining in the game and I'm trying to avoid a war.

My version of MapStat is giving me some strange numbers and it won't let me look at China...I don't think it works.

Would appreciate the help...and any clues as to why my MapStat isn't working.

I downloaded the Java version for Mac and like I said, it runs, but the numbers its giving me are all wrong.

The same thing occurs w/ my MapStat, only your rival civs appear. Mine does work, becasue I used it w/ GOTM28 today. Are you patched to 1.29b2? Not that it would matter, don't know?

Yes, matched to 1.29b2...

Any ideas why mine doesn't work and yours does? Can you check my game save for me and let me know how close to domination I am with China?

I've not a clue as to why its not working w/ your save file. Maybe Alan or someone else can offer more insight.

How did you upload that file? It has a MacBinary header on the front, so I'm guessing you are running OS9 with a browser that uploads MacBinary?

Anyway, I stripped off the first 128 bytes and then opened it in JMapstat. The version on the site is known to get it wrong if there are no barbarians configured. I'm guessing your game has barbs disabled? I've modded a version to handle games with no barbs which I'll upload pdq. It gave the following results - you're 77 tiles from domination:

Many thanks Alan...I'll be looking for that refined MapStat from you...

Yes, Barbs were off. I'm running on OSX...browsing with Internet Explorer for Mac v 5.2. How did you "strip off" the first 128bytes?

77 tiles, huh? Guess I got to go get it by force, I don't think I have enough cultural expansion remaining to get it done.

It's there. Follow the link in my sig.

Hmmm! Two questions - a) Why IE, when Safari is a zillion times better, and b) I wonder why it's sending MacBinary?

FYI I make a habit of zipping .sav files before uploading them as it puts a checksum on the file to protect against corruption during transfer. It will also stop the MacBinary nonsense.

HexEdit.

Alan...IE apparently doesn't like your latest MapStat download, it tells me it doesn't know what to do with the file and asks me if I want to download it as an "attachment.php" file...whatever that is.

I'm running version 10.1.5...I know that's outdated and I'm intending to move to Panther very soon...(does Safari come with that? or can I download it?)...maybe that's part of the problem.

Given my last game (I got my Domination win BTW), that program was invaluable in deciding how to proceed. I thank you for running my file through...

Any help you can give me would be welcome...and thanks again for intervening in the previous matter.

Go ahead and download it, then change .php to .zip. The unzip it. It'll be fine.

Safari is a free browser offered by Apple that is OSX compatible only. It is a beta, but still outperforms all contenders. You can d/l it through Apple's site.

Many thanks Dojo and Alan...the MapStat loaded okay and works fine.

Have you or anybody else you know of experienced any problems with Panther and CivIII?

Apparently Safari is only operable with OS of 10.2 or newer...my 10.1.5 doesn't qualify.

Alan...for future reference, when sending files as I did before, do I simply insert the .zip when selecting the file for uploading?

No problems here.

Trust me ... you *need* Panther!

No, you need to use a utility to zip the file before you upload it. I use Aladdin's Stuffit suite, or Panther has file compression built into its Finder, or there's a command line utility you can run in the Terminal called "jar" - yes, Java archives are actually zip files with a different extension.
