Something should be done with Barbatos

why would anyone bother to find barbatos on the island? after all, you just get a death mana node?

For the staff of souls, or to settle the island...

I've played a few games where Barbatos has killed a AI Civ either right after he first spawns, or pretty early in the game. I've also played a game where I did not see him near my start town, until I had it built, and I could barely get off a 2nd city by the time my teammates had 4 cities. Mainly due to the fact that his summons would kill any Villager/Worker that got close to him, and I had some good resources, and the bottom half of my cities plots which could not be gotten to without losing one of the units per turn.

Also, Computer AI doesn't really seem to know how to deal with Barbatos. I have seen a few games where Barbatos was close enough by in the beginning of the game where I could see him and keep tabs on him, and saw the computer sending endless waves of Scouts and Warriors at him, only to be killed by summons before they even got there.

I really like the feature, don't get me wrong, but something should definately be done to make sure he isn't "too close" to a Civ's starting location.

well this was in version .31 so I don't know if things have changed since .32 release. But yeah, he would pop my villagers every time they got within visibility range, so anytime they were within 2 tiles of Barbatos, out popped a summon, and down went my villager. Since I was struggling so hard to make production in my main city to be able to afford a 2nd city. So he sent out those Centaur units, a stack of 10 of them all against Barbatos, and didn't even damage Barbatos one bit with the whole stack of 10 attacking together all at once.

I've seen him spawn on a tile right next to the Clan starting point before on a Huge map, and within the cultural borders of the Malakim in a Duel map. Needless to say both were wiped out in under 20 turns. (I was amazed to see how quickly I won a conquest victory on that Duel map )

Why would the Clan be wiped out that soon? Their leaders both have the Barbarian Trait, so Barbatos should actually protect them until they are 150% as strong a anyone else.

What if Barbatos was an actual leader, seperate from the barbs? Maybe when he takes a city, he enters the game in that city, somewhat like the Mercurians. At least that way you wouldn't start a 6 AI game only to have it become a 5 AI game on turn 9.

Probably too late in development to implement though.

I played one game with the Khazad where Barbatos was 2 tiles from Archaron's city. I managed to box them in against the coast and, keeping my boarders shut, killed them at my leisure.
