SOR01, Inherited Turn 1750BC
Looks good.
IT: Aztecs are building Pyramids...that must be the green border our curragh is next to
Turn 1, 1725BC: worker starts to hook spices...if India founds where the settler is then the spices are not ours, long term, but I'm not going to waste a worker move turn and will hook the spices since this is where the previous leader left the worker.
Science down to 70%
IT: blue warrior moves into sight of our curragh.
Code of Laws is researched, start Philo at max.
Turn 2, 1700BC: the blue warrior is Korea, who is also up a bunch of techs but down writing.
Barracks in Constantinople changed to courthouse. I'll try to hold writing for a couple more turns to get a head start on philosophy.
Turn 3, 1675BC: exploring
Turn 4, 1650BC: time to trade writing around:
writing gets
iron working + 21g from Aztecs (we have no iron)
writing + 18g gets
masonry and
ceremonial burial from Portugal.
writing gets
warrior code,
pottery and the
wheel from Korea (we have no horses)
Horseback riding is also about, so masonry gets
horseback riding from Korea.
I did not trade with India because I want to keep our neighbour as weak and backward as possible.
Constantinople changes to temple, due next turn.
IT: Constantinople builds temple, starts Pyramids
Turn 5, 1625BC: lux rate still cannot be lowered until spices hooked, since 10% lux is providing 2 happy faces.
Turn 6, 1600BC: exploration.
IT: spices hooked
Turn 7, 1575BC: lux to 0%, science to 90%, philosophy in 6.
IT: India finally founds Calcutta to claim the spices. We still have our source, but only until Calcutta's borders expand...once that happens we lose our set, so we should be prepared for this and certainly must not trade our source away under any circumstance.
Turn 8, 1550BC: Portugal has mysticism at monopoly.
Turn 9, 1525BC: see a red border far south.
IT: Portugal starts Oracle.
Turn 10, 1500BC: meet Babylon, we're up 5 techs.
IT: Constantinople grows to size 7.
Turn 11, 1475BC: lux to 10% means we're at -2gpt but philo due in 2...still, wouldn't want an AI cash demand right now...
Turn 12, 1450BC: philosophy due next turn
IT: party pooper India demands horseback riding...given
The gambit works...we get
philosophy and the
republic, starting literature.
We revolt immediately, Constantinople riots at loss of mps.
Turn 13, 1425BC: harsh luck here, we have a further 3 turns of anarchy

. With only one city you can often get away with just 2 turns of anarchy total. This also means that Constantinople will starve back down to size 6 during anarchy, even with riots every other turn, since it only has 2 food in the box.
We met the Inca, who are up mysticism but down philosophy, code of laws and republic.
IT: order restored in Constantinople
Turn 14, 1400BC: we meet the Zulu and now have full contacts. We're up a bunch of techs; sell ceremonial burial to them for 20g.
Set Constantinople to riot again to avoid starving 2 sizes during anarchy.
IT: Constantinople riots.
Turn 15, 1375BC: last turn of anarchy, but Constantinople will starve as order is restored...I cannot risk losing the temple by allowing a second consecutive riot.
IT: the starvation is doubly painful as we have no granary
Turn 16, 1350BC: we are a republic, and our income shoots

.
Portugal has maths at monopoly, so I decide to trade: Code of Laws gets us
mathematics (monopoly for monopoly).
maths sold to Inca for
mysticism + 27g.
Set research to Literature at 60%, due in 15.
Found embassy with India.
IT: Inca building Statue of Zeus...whoops, maybe I should have given them code of laws rather than maths
Turn 17, 1325BC: curraghs are now exploring for map information rather than contacts.
Turn 18, 1300BC: more of the same.
Turn 19, 1275BC: not much happening.
Turn 20, 1250BC: in summary, we're the tech leaders, our closest rival is Portugal, down Philosophy and the Republic. We're up many more techs on some of the other AIs.
Literature is due in 10 turns at break even, Pyramids in 20. We have some wonder options. The most appealing options are:
1) Take the Pyramids, for denial as much as anything, and then start afresh on the Great Library, making sure there is no cascade to it by holding onto Literature.
2) Take the Mausoleum (5 turns), triggering GA, and then go for the Library, using Pyramids for a few turns of prebuild.
3) Stay on the Pyramids but switch to the Great Library as soon as Lit is available. This is the safest option for the Library, but we can maybe get another wonder too if we take the risk.
the biggest downer in these turns was Constantinople starving to size 6. Once it's back to size 7 we'll have immediate benefits, more unit support, extra gold in the city center, more shields and happiness balanced (at the moment 10% lux is gaining us one more happy face than we need, so lux will not need to increase once we get to size 7).
Good luck and enjoy!
