Sound FX playing over and over and over

here we go, sound fx (birds, fighting, money,'clicking') occationall play over and over and over continuously. sometimes they become distorted and die. other times i go insane and rip my ears off. i tried using the patch, cleaning my cd drive and un/reinstalling my game. basically am i screwed?

i have that prob to.just turn on winamp silence the music in, civ3 and listen to your favorite music while playing civ3

i have been forced to do that, but i was wondering if there was an actual fix, i mean i did pay to hear the sounds too

I ahve the same problem, and I think they do need to bring out a fix for that, I don't know how possible it is. Right now I am using an ancient system, I am upgrading in 3 days from my K6-2 400 to an ATHLON 1800 XP, I thought that might fix it, or at least make it dissapeare quicker than it does normally.
What kind of system do you run it with? If it's as old as mine, maybe it's just that...

this comes straight off, my pc. basically i resorted to turning off the sound which sucks.

I had the exact same problem, posted in this forum a couple times, never got any response. I too hope to upgrade soon, always have to resort to turning of music, usually listen to the radio. But I agree completely,it really bugs me. I want to be able to hear some of the music/SFX. I paid just as much for the game as anyone else did, so why can't I have it?

Really stinks, asked @ tech support if it was a resource leak or something a long long time ago. The repeating SFX just eats up the system resources until the game just runs slower and slower until it finally crashes to the desktop and thats for Civ III till I reboot again.

that happened also, the slowdown and shut down. i just thought it was unrelated

i got a prompt saying ' system resources at 90%' discontinuing all non essential functions. then it proceded to die on me.
