I've borrowed ideas from Dune, Starship Troopers.
Just a heads up for everyone (NavyDawg, you might want to note this with the download link), you cannot go to the download page with the browser Opera.
Just a heads up.
Red Door, thanks for the heads up. Rather ironic isn't it that Opera won't let you download Space Opera.![]()
Random Observations and Questions:
Yes, the asteroids are rather small and it does look similar to inner space. I think given some time, you'll be able to see the difference more easily. Unfortunately, I can't make my own terrain set, so I have used what was already made. I'm not knocking the terrain, overall I think it's great.Asteroids are indescribably annoying while to trying to explore. The square look similar to Inner Space.
There is a VP on a planet underneath the black hole (there are four more VPs in the corners of the map, controlled by pirate garrisons). This is also a strategic location as it will be a major space lane between the north and south portions of the galaxy. If you plant a colony here, put a few stealth cruisers down there to mess with the other civs.I'm guessing the galactic center has something to do with VPs, but what exactly?
Smugglers will pose an early threat and may limit expansion for some empires. Also, they control several key luxuries (along with the pirates) that will be needed to keep larger systems happy. They're not really meant to win. Plus, how can you have a space scenario without smugglers? What are the Smugglers for? I know they have a tech-tree seperate from everyone else and better starting units, but how do they win?
Since I can't make anything more intricate... The galaxy in this scenario is purely fictional. BTW, I think the Milky Way's center actually is a barred spiral, there are just more arms off of it.When did our galaxy become a bar spiral?![]()

This scenario is awesome!
I'm loving it!
Couple of questions:
What does the searchlight graphic in the "city" mean?
How soon until we get some unique units?(not trying to rush you, really!)
According to the civpedia the "agriculture board" allows colonies to grow into systems. Is that possible in civ3?
Thanks Civinator for the compliment.
I did think about using blank city files, so it would just show the planet. I never tested it, but I think I might. Cool screenshot BTW.
I decided to go with the space stations for the scenario to show city size 1 to 2 progression. Also, I personally like seeing something pop up on the map when you make a new settlement.
Imagine how cool it looks on the map, when a planet builds a "planetary force shield" (=wall) and a force shield graphic pops up and envelopes the planet (this is the effect on my Civ 2 screene and this also works perfectly for Civ 3).
