Can you use Great Engineers to Hurry Production on spaceship parts?

Playing as Siam on Immortal and going for Science Victory from the start, I've built all the Great Scientist Points Wonders and relevant boosters like Garden and National Epic, so I am cranking out Scientists at 24 points per turn :) HOWEVER this is all well and good but it's the Space Race, I've built my SS Cockpit and it's taking 18 turns to build every part. Meanwhile, Persia have built the Cockpit, the Stasis Chamber and a Booster! Them having over 2800 points and me having 650 might have something to do with it! But I didn't really do any wars or take any cities, I was too busy building all these Science Wonders!

I've used my many Great Scientists to get all the techs I need to build every SS part. So right now I really need Great Engineers. Meanwhile Persia are getting 9 votes in the UN vote. Oh, and last I looked they have 40,000 gold. I am considering abandoning...

BTW I turned off G+K expansion.

No you can't. I discovered this the hard way on an Inca OCC Diety playthrough were I lost by about 3 turns and had an engineer I was saving for this.

...but you can plant them as Manufactories which really helps produce SS components (and other things).

But don't plant the manufactury on a hill. The hill is better off mined and the manufactury settled on flat land (preferably a plains tile, for another hammer).

The vast majority of the time I build Academies rather than go for free tech, whereas with GEs I almost always use them for 1 turn Wonders. I find if you build Manufactories AND Academies you run out of food tiles, never mind building Holy Sites etc!

18 turns is a lot.

He had cities with like less than 10 pop and he built them in 5 turns, so you are crazy
What you need are factories and spaceship factories (however they are called)
THAT will boos your production
You can also use a GA by the time you are building them

I agree, for any time period other than the very end game. When I've completed teching, am building SS parts, and have or can get an extra engineer (perhaps I've taken Order and have sufficient faith left over to buy a GE, or I'm working all my engineering specialists and one last engineer spawns at just the right time), then I will plant the engineer on top of an academy (no more need for the bpt) and get the extra hammers to plow through the last few SS parts. If the academy was on a plains tile, there's another hammer (actually another 2+ hammers, with all of the production multipliers at that point).

@op
Since you said you turned off G&K and are thus playing a vanilla game, use the GE for a Golden Age.

Yeah I kind of didn't build any factories because I didn't have any SRs because all the other Civs took all the land and I just had my capital and an island city (because that was all the land that was left!) Such is Immortal...

BTW, other guy, ty for saying build Manufactories over Academies
