Good/Bad/Okay/Dont Care Idea?

This is NOT another uber hyperspace/photon cannon Future Ages idea. Actually, I leave that up to you to decide.

The Idea

You could build space stations, much like starships. Then you could build docks and factories etc., on the station. With the factories, you could build wealth, ICBMs, or SS parts. (You could launch the ICBMs from the station). On the ground, you'd build these little rockets which can transport one unit. They'd be very costly, but you could send them up to the station, and then send it back down- ANYWHERE. You could also build missiles and 'cruisers' (Imagine the Space Shuttle with a ton of guns) to destroy other space stations and to defend your own. Later, you'd have the abillity to stage asteroid-mining operations, though it would be very costly and you would only have control of the resource you mined for about 20 turns.
 
This idea is copied from CTP, if I'm not mistaken? :)
That part of CTP wasn't bad, with the sea cities, but by the time they were available, the game was mostly won for me :)
 
Noooo you dont get it, do you? They aren't like cities, they're more like starships. And I never played CTP, so im not quite sure what i've copied. As or you people who dont like this idea, I forgot to add that there can only be 1 space station for each civ. They are very very costly, but hard to capture/destroy too :p
 
thers isnt space in the game think about the role. there could be satelites etc. they would make more sense, ant compare ur idea to the reality or the near future. ther is space flight, satellites and some spacestations. which of them are important? sattelites, the rest is prestige, maybe spacestation could be a smallwonder with culural and sience output, troop transport is ineffetiv unrealistic, attack or icbm satelites are thinkable but forbidden by international law, so maybe hat shell be implicated
 
yea and u think that doesnt mean some icbm satelitte isnt out there anyways the station maybe to much but something to build then cultrul\scientfic achievement
 
I think its a great idea, but it needs a bit more thought. Like maybe it lets you launch space missions to get more scientific output or something
 
I am going to have to disagree with the whole space station and sat concept. In terms of the game serious space activity would only happen in about the last half of modern era. And what would these things do? We dont have weapon space platforms. We don't have space construction and production facilities. We don't have space farms. The only thing we have is communication and research much of which is privetly funded. I personally would rather have ICS fixed once and for all than introduce a new gameplay mechanic for the end game.
 
This feature would apply especially to people who keep playing after the game is over (since I feel that it's usually just too short), like me.
