I had an idea that I think would be an interesting addition. What if units that do something extraordinary (like slay a dragon) become heroes. They would retain their unit type, but be granted a name (maybe selectable by the player like a city name...or just randomly ganerated based on race) and gain the hero promotion. They would be like Giorgi Adventureres, but only appear in a rare instance of heroism.
Some events that might trigger the creation of a hero unit:
Defeating Orthos.
Slaying the Dragon.
Conquering a rival civ (the unit that puts the final nail in the coffin).
Destroying the holy city of an opposing religion.
Purging the world of wearwolves.
Perhaps if this mechanic were implemented, there could be a limit based on tier of unit or relative strenght or something. A warrior defeats Orthos and he becomes a hero, a Paladin defeats Orthor and it is just another day at the office.
