Spearman vs. Tank

Then how do explain a swordsmen hacking at a gunship in mid air?

These gunships are based off of real world gunships, not mystical always-flying gunships. A unit of apaches doesn't stay airborne all the time, they have to land a lot for refueling and repair, just ordinary field operations will leave a good chunk of the unit in non-fighting condition because of breakdowns. You lose gunships to swordsemen by neglecting maintenance and by trying to root them out of caves, towns, and forests, not by sending gunships to attack a big formation of swordsmen in a field.

Hold on a second, When I played cIV, I WAS able to upgrade my units in the field with a gold-cost.
And now I'm left wondering what all the chatter is about.
I have realized just how much a pain longbowman and crossbowman were pertaining to defense. For me it actually took cavalry, that's right the civil war lookning folk on horseback, to break through the city defenses of my then-enemy. It did not take tanks though, and I can assure you all of that simply because I was to wankeringly primitive pertaining to anks. As I said cavalry.

Anyways, I don't fully understand for this argument to have any credibility. I noticed no real pain except for the archery factor. Though it was also a pleasure, real pleasure.:king:

Easy.

In mogadishu the majority of the somalian soldiers were armed with nothing more than clubs and sticks. A couple of them managed to get hold of some RPG's, but they weren't trained in their use, and there certainly weren't enough of them to constitute an "rpg unit". The city was being defended with mellee units, but they still managed to beat some helicopters before reinforcments came in.
Really? Fascinating all this. Also, did you mean I should be easy:(

Think you mean Goliath and most timea i use powerful offensive units, i get beat by primitive ones.

This is a reason I pay very close attention to the promotion aspect and who I promote with what promotion.
And that's what I love about this game, it's some much further in-depth.

I agree, Englor. I like things to be complicated.

Complicated = prefered antithisis = manageable.

I have been given the speil of being told that my personality class is the "shcolar". One who allows for abscent-mindedness for the process of constantly percieving and analysing circumstance into data that is redistributed amongts viewers and observationists.
I am also born under the sign of capricorn(astrolgy)
And in the year of the rat(chinese astrology)
Carpicorn meaning must be concrete. Solid based understanding and classification.
Not to clear on rat.
I considered mysel and realist analysist, and ideolizer.
I've been called a physical philospher by a few who know me well including the depths of my wonderings and thoughts.
My most recently appointed "mentality identidity" was the "radical motivator".
Either way you slice it, I prefer there to be material, for the simple sake of exhaustive study and suppliment.
It' is indeed both a micracle and expectation that I've self relieved myself of addictions to such drugs as; pot, coke, crack, meth and acid.
My actually determination was that education and learning really is the ultimate high. All those things did was create varied circumstance of my ability(otherwise testing) to fuction with disruptance.
For the record I no longer use drugs, though I do thrill upon a good drink.
Sorry for taking the discussion off-topic, I now have to go to work. Talk to you all latter when I get back tonight.:hatsoff:

I was paying attention to my promotions depending on what situation i was in. I wasn't cutting down any forests or jungles so i used Woodman II as a Praetorian and still got beat by Warriors who had no promotions.

I was pointing out that promotions arent always a good thing, because LUCk and the fact that there is a RANDOM factor in battles never makes winning or losing a sure thing.

I know but i did say that promoting doesnt always help - see my example THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED - TWICE!

I realised that but i had Woodsman II which is better than Combat I.

Wow Hitler and Swedish Guy stop Spamming it's against the rules!

but anyways I never understood why A spearmen killing a atnk was such a big thing like can't you see your chances?
And who cares if primitie units can kill advanceded ones its for balance otherwise the most advanceded weaponary would always win rather then have a better chance to win :(

Meh....as an avid conflict enthusiast, I say combat simulation always needs corrective direction. Losing a tank to a spearman or archer that isn't insanely established(promoted), is enough to make my mini me ache at night.
Funniest thing. My cousin ben lost an f-15 to a *$%&ing
lawer in call to power 1.

Being from massachusettes he was quickly able to respond to shock with smarta$$ wit, by uttering the phraze I always use to vent during very similar occurence, "yeah well I didn't want that sissy on my fleet anyway!"

Dont you see? The explanation is so simple! A guy even gave a hint in the begining of the thread! THE SWORDMAN IS THE SUPERMARIO!!! He just jumped into the gunship and killed the pilots :P

So simple..

I have no problem with Warriors killing my Mechanized Infantry. If the odds of them winning are 0.001%, then where's the problem if it happnes once every 1000 times?
I think of Civilization as of a game of chess, that's more dynamic, has more "pieces" and better graphics. But one has to realize this is not Battlefield, and units are only abstract representations of HP, and movements, not actual units in real life...

Simple explanation: Spearmen (quiet and easily hidden) sneak up on tank/modern armor(not so easy to hide and keep quiet), open the hatch and go in hacking!!!! same for swordsmen and any other melee unit. As for longbowmen... explosive small nuclear tips on the arrow of course! Final Thought: Has anyone from Firaxis ever tried to say they were making the game as realistic as possible or as fun... hmmm...

EDIT: Just so you all know, I lose these rediculous battles in every single game and I have to laugh. I bet that spearman's gettin some ass after winning vs. a tank (of course, before he faces death on the next turn.)
