I want toe expand my Youtube channel to include some CIV content and as I see that the LP is nice being taken, how about a challenge everyone can participate.

What it would mean, is that I would give a challenge and the person to obtain it the quickest using standard speed/map gets a cookie, or maybe the next DLC for free, maybe when its on sale since I an unemployed, or someone else could gift them the DLC on my behalf.

Anyways a sample of proposed quests:

Highest Score after turn 100.
Biggest population by turn 100.
Most cultural progress by turn 100.
Most cities by turn 100.
Fastest Beeline to Chivalry (Chinese/ English)
Fastest Beeline to Iron Working (Rome)
Fastest Completion to Build Stonehenge
Fastest Completion to Build Hangin Gardens

Also allow other people to make up new quests

Let me know what you think, good idea or bad idea. And for the record, its not meant to be a scam or to promote my channel, I would use this forum for discussion and uploads and my youtube channel would go in depth on how the top 3 were able to accomplish it, its meant as a way to think about the game and compare how other people play, you know add another dimension to it and let other people show off their strategies.

those are kinda boring lol! :P

How about something like playing a Cultural victory without building cultural buildings? :P or winning without using specialists,

or must finish Liberty and Order while doing a One City Challenge Space Victory only declare war on 3 first civs 20 turns after you meet them...

I don't think they are boring because a whole LP is not that youtube friendly. No disrespect to the ones people do now, actually I mean they are so good more are not needed. If you can do a short clip on you tube of first 100 turns or so maybe it's better in some ways. I think the gifting DLCs idea for achievements is a nice aspect of Steam (mini tournaments and all). I'm not sure if it's good business sense though as YouTube revenues on Civ5 are maybe not that high.

Actually all said I think it's a great idea but yeah I don't think people would need rewards for it. Also it can be abused rather easily with restarts etc. Hopefully enough people would try it for the challenge. OK, sign me up I will do it.

So what do you plan, people post saves every 20,30, 50 turns? And you load them up and analyse where they went at each step?

I like your originality. What is your channel and which games do you cover?

That would mean deleting your starting warrior, I guess?

In any case, heroic Cho-Ko-Nu rush with horseman? :) OR Conquistador/Mandekalu rush.
Actually without melee (horses & swords) & gunpowder units domination is impossible. Ranged units don't capture cities as far as I know.

its a challenge for me to stay intrested in the game long enugh toplay a full game.

actually they are melee units. there are 2 types of units in the game, range and melee. horsemen, knights are melee while chariot archers are range units.

It could break down into that, yes, but the poster mentioned 'melee or gunpowder', which is a more `in-depth` classification than yours; by his classification, we could also add in Siege, Armored etc. (all which are, btw, recognized by the in-game civilopedia. they also have different upgrade paths)

My original answer

is thusly correct :)

EDIT: re-checking the civilopedia, yes, the promotions are melee/ranged/naval etc. But still, the poster DID mention gunpowder, which, being a sub-class of melee, made me think that he discarded mounted. My answer I guess is still valid.
