I was thinking it would be a cool idea if all the civs had their own special terrain. For example, because the egyptians lived in the desert or in flood plains, they should get a bonus for building cities there. perhaps because production is minimal in those areas they could get a production boost. Also for another example maybe the russians or the vikings would get an advantage building in colder area like tundra. i think this would add cool new dimensions to the game because for once not everyone would be going for the grassland and plains. i was also thinking that a new age should be added past the modern age and that possible water and space colonization should be considered. :)

That might not be so great for random maps.. The poor Russkie would be at a disadvantage, sharing the desert with Egypt. And vice versa.

Water colonization was in SMAC, and I know one Civ game (It might have been a CTP) had Space Colonization and Water Colonization. It was interesting, but odd.

right but maybe each civ could start in their special locations, or at least close by. ( in civ 3 conquests when the seafaring characteristic was put into place, one of its bonuses was placing the civ almost always on the ocean).

What about just giving the units of that civ an advantage (up to modern age.) I.e. Egyptian rifleman have +25% defense on desert, or russians on tundra.
For civs like England, and other seafaring civs, the advantage could be an extra movement point for ships.
