It was colorful, it was bright, it was seizurific. I personally loved it, so who's seen it and what do you think?

I want to watch it. I used to love watching Speed Racer on Cartoon Network!

I haven't seen it, but watched the cartoon as a kid on Boomerang and still love this.

70s wannabe boy! I saw it on broadcast tv back in the day, just they way old Japanese anime was meant to be seen. ;)

Actually, really the only episode I remember anything from was one about a train that was made of gold. The gold had been stolen and to hide it, it had been turned into a big choo choo. The blades coming from Speedy's car to cut down trees as he sped through a forest, while the train just *WHAM* knocked 'em down.
Beyond that, all I remember is looking forward to it coming on.

Good movie, but not great. Suitable matinee fare. Has a huge 'saturday morning cartoon' feel to it. I almost expected letter ballons during the fights going 'BIFF' or "BAM"!!

Most enjoyable characters of the movie were the younger brother and the chimp. They stole the whole show.

I never was into anime, then or now. I never understood the appeal whatsoever. It was less entertaining than scooby-doo and yet supposed to appeal to young adults. How that genre caught on I'll never know.

Okay, I thought this thread was about the old series. Are you saying there is a new Speed Racer movie out there? Heh, well I enjoyed it as a small kid because it was a show for small kids. Don't think I'll go waste money on it now.

It was a cartoon???

Is it really so long since I last switched on to a cartoon program? Man, time flies.

Anyway, I haven't seen it. Maybe I'll wait for the DVD to come out. Too busy these days anyway. :(

I don't know when all the re-runs were played, but the cartoons were made in '67-'68 and then in '97.

I never saw the cartoon either, but in '90s I had the nickname Speedracer, so this movie brought back some memories.

Thats the 'Monster Car' episode, one of my personal favorties along with the "Most Dangerous Race" or something like that where Speed wrecks, is blinded and Racer X has to help him win the race against the evil car acrobatic team.

When I was a kid the sound of the monster car scared the hell outta me.

Im planning on taking the kid this weekend sometime.

I honestly thought the movie was suitable for more than just kids myself, but I think most people have that weird "superiority" complex where no matter how much they enjoyed a "kid" movie they always have to downplay it somehow.

I saw the movie over the weekend. I dont recommend the epileptic or seizure prone view it. The first part was weak. Too much jumping around via flashbacks. The second half was more solid.

This movie exists in an alternate universe where cars have protective bubbles for drivers, immense twisting race tracks are built up like skyscrapers, the world loves racing and John Goodman can kick a ninja's azz.

All in all pretty goofy but fun with enough call backs to the old show for me. Plus monkey poo is flung, thats always good for a laugh.

Don't think I'll see the movie since I grew up watching the cartoon. Speed had quite the female following as I have heard several women of my age group refer to Trixie with some pretty unkind words.
