Well well, did you figure out how "normal" pressure from cities gets applied?
And BTW, do you think it's possible to preserve a pantheon against a major religion in case you fail at founding one and you really need your pantheon (like you are highly see-based and need the prod bonus from God of the See)
Just curious for strategy purposes.
pressure is applied these ways:
1. from pop growth, as stated above (+100 for major religion even if its an atheism)
2. from surrounding cities ("normal" pressure), +6 (normal speed) per turn from each city in the radius of 10 hexes
3. from missionaries and prophets, +1000 per "spread" (prophet also removes all other religion's pressure, with exception to atheism)
4. from the holy city pressure (HCP), its equal to 5 * normal pressure, that is 30 for normal speed. HCP counts for that city only, and its religion is not required to be a major religion for HCP to take an effect.
5. upon a founding of a pantheon, each city gets size * 200 instant pressure points for it. pantheon is not a true religion and cities converted to it dont produce any pressure. patheon fraction can grow only with the pop growth. Also, patheon gets completely wiped from a city on capture.
6. upon a founding of a religion, a city where this was happened, gets size * 500 instant pressure points for this religion.
about a pantheon, i thought it retains an effect even if was surpassed by some other religion?
not sure about it tought, should look to the sdk..
preserving a patheon can turn out to be a really hard task
1. pantheon produces no per-turn pressure nor it has missionaries, so it cant resist a major religion spread.
2. moreover, each time a major religion pressure is applied to a city, not only it being accumulated, but also the patheon fraction is being decreased by this value.
so, you have to
a) raze nearby religious cities to sequre your pantheon from their pressure (ideally you have to live on an isolated island)
b) shoot any proceeding missionaries at sight
for better protection you may place inquisitors in your cities. though it will be hard to get them as there's no pagan inquisitors in the game, so you have to capture some inquisitors from your rivals, or capture a religious city and buy inquisitors there. you also should not forget that an inquisitor should to belong to an other religion than a missionary in order to prevent him from conducting a convert mission.
p.s. i've got a mod idea: pagan/atheist inquisitors
