Stairway to Heaven vs. Bohemian Rhapsody

Just curious. When you think about it the two are somewhat similar. Both were made by English hard rock bands from the 70s (Led Zeppelin and Queen respectivelly). Both gradually become louder as they go on, starting out slowly and bulding up to a heavy rush to the finish, with the very end being reserved for a few quit lines. Stairway to Heaven preceeded Bohemian Rhapsody by four years, but the two generally belong to the same era of rock. Both featured eccentric frontmen.

Both are not only considered key parts in the history of rock and roll, but have by now become pop culture classics. There are many who believe that either one or the other is the greatest rock song of all time. They are both also relatively long songs, Stairway to Heaven clocking in at 8 minutes and Bohemian Rhapsody at a little under 6.

Of course then there are the obvious differences. Stairway to Heaven has almost a mystical feel, typical of some of Zeppelin's music. Bohemian Rhapsody is definetly one of the more psychadelic and bizzare songs of all time.

I've also noticed there are quite a few people here in civfanatics who are fans of either Zeppelin or Queen.

So that said, I'm wondering, according to CFC, which one of these is the greater song?

November Rain beats them both.

But for the purposes of this thread: Queen's epic conquers Led Zeppelin's epic.

Ive never liked stairway to heaven.

There is no way I can choose one over the other, both are amazing songs.

Bohemian Rhapsody is always fun. I find I need to either be "unsober" or in a specific mood to listen to the entire Stairway.

I never listened to "Stairway to Heaven", but I highly dislike "Bohemian Rhapsody", so in doubt I give my vote to "undecided".

I myself have to say I am completely undecided, but refuse to vote until I can think things over a bit more.

I like them both, but, if I had to choose one of them, Stairway to Heaven would be my choice.

Queen is a hard rock band?

"Few bands embodied the pure excess of the '70s like Queen. Embracing the exaggerated pomp of prog-rock and heavy metal, as well as vaudevellian music-hall, the British quartet delved deeply into camp and bombast, creating a huge, mock-operatic sound with layered guitars and overdubbed vocals. Queen's music was a bizarre yet highly accessible fusion of the macho and the fey."

Genre: Rock

Styles: Album Rock, British Metal, Arena Rock, Pop/Rock, Glam Rock, Prog-Rock/Art, Rock, Hard Rock

Among other things they were, yes.

Queen was a hard rock band early in their career. Listen to the first four albums and you'll agree.
I am a big fan of both Queen and Led Zeppelin, so I must say it's a hard decision. I'd say Bohemian Rhapsody. But both songs are horribly overplayed. Many people don't know the true gems of these two bands.

Some nice facts about Bohmenian Rhapsody:
-Only single to be released twice in the same version and get more than 1,000,000 sales each time
-Only single to be Christmas no. 1 twice, in 1975 and 1991
-Only single to be no. 1 in four different years, 1975, 1976, 1991 and 1992
-At 5.55 min., originally deemed "too long" for a single release
-The operatic section in the middle was never played live, but instead on tape while the band left the stage for that part
-Many people tried to cover it, but all failed bitterly
-During recording, the tape was played so often that it became transparent

Does Bohemian Rhapsody have satanic backmasking in it as does Stairway to Heaven?

I've honestly never cared for Stairway to Heaven. And Bohemian Rhapsody is the greatest song ever. No competition.

Bohemian Rhapsody for me. It is just such a good, fun and grin making blast.

Get the Led out. All the way.

Bohemian Rhapsody, hands down!!!

"Thunderbolt and lighting, very very frightening..."

Regards :).

Of cource. In order to hear it you have to:
1. Read the bible for 20 hours without break at least.
2. Then hit your head hard with this bible. When your one of these weak believers with a bible which weights less then 6 pounds, take something more heavy. Like a chair. A iron plate. Your door. A big brick. Continue this till your vision goes dark (or when its already dark, then till you see some lights). Now, after you purged succesfully all satanic influence out of your body, you're ready for the next step.
3. Use some holy incence to open your sprituel connection to god, to draw power to resist against the voices of evil. Inhale the holy smoke deep and long. You can add some marihuana, this will increase your perception quite a bit.
4. Now your ready to face the evil. Sit in front of your favorite satanisitic detection equipment and start hearing all songs you wan't. If there seem to be no satanic messages, just bash your head some more and inhale addional smoke.

Now I'm the biggest GNR fan in the world but November Rain is not better than these two songs. Now Coma, there's a song. ;)
