Caliphate of Al-Andalus
In the years since Abd al-Rahman built his town, it had prospered. The original army created to protect the city had doubled in size. The people of Al-Andalus were developing their own culture and their own sense of "national identity," seperating themselves apart from the other tribes surrounding their lands. Furthermore, the people were beginning to prosper from an economic standpoint as well. Andalusian farmers had discovered that the lands they inhabited were especially fertile lands for growing olives. The salty delicacy was becoming both an important food resource for the Andalusians, but also a resource for trade with the neighboring native tribes. Therefore, al-Rahman ordered the planting of many olive trees throughout the realm, to promote both domestic and external economic vitality.
