Standard map size

According to Potato McWhiskey, the default settings that appear when you start a new game are those that the game is designed around for optimum play. But in that case, why is the default map size "small", and "standard" is not the default - which suggests it is not standard at all?

Standard is too big anyways for default. I prefer small map size.

I have wondered it myself too. Maybe its better for new players
I like the small map size too but mostly play standard.

Maybe they set it as default for better performance on potatoes. For me 6 players is too few, 10 is too many, 8 is just right.

His reasoning is that the "default game setup" is the one that has enjoyed the most testing/balancing and new players should thus not mess around with the settings too much on their first few play-throughs
