I think this would be a great idea.

I'm suprised nobody brought this up sooner!

Having said that, this would be a massive undertaking. You would need civ specific era units for all tribes for it to look authentic and you would need to include at least the main players: Federation: Cardasian: Romulan: Klingon and Ferengi. That's a lot of units!

I'm looking to buy an animation tool sometime next week and would love to try my hand at a few starships.
Are there particular ships you would like me to try my hand at?

Maybe you should ask kobiyashi...i know he is a Civ 2 mod creator but maybe he has civ 3 and would be willing to lend an assist?
At least his VAST Star Trek Knowledge could be really useful...
