Star Wars: The Mod - Unit requests

I'm guessing you have Jedi Knight Bmps and Stephs Storyboard Builder and now you don't know what to do. This part's kind of hard to explain without actually showing you how to do it.

You should create folders for each direction of the animation in your Jedi Knight folder where you're making the unit. There should be 5 folders since SWGB Units only show 5 directions (S,SW,W,NW,N). This is required so SBB can read the Bmps. The next part is a little tedious, place all of the frames for each direction in there respected folders. The names of the units should end with 4 digits, starting with either 0000 or 0001. The DRS Viewer automatically adds 3 digits to the end of your file name so you should add a 0 to the file name when you extract the frames (For example "JediKnightDefault0". The names of the BMPs in EACH folder have to be named starting with JediKnightDefault0001 and so on. There has to be an equal number of frames in each folder.

After everyhting is named properly, open up SBB and load the BMPs, make sure that the "First=1" box is checked and then it should show 5 directions checked if you did it right. Now you can save all of the frames to one file which is to be pasted into the storyboard. If you haven't created the storyboard yet you should do it now using Civ3FLCEDIT or Flicster. Don't forget to transfer the palette from the BMP files to the storyboard, because more colors = more detail. At this point you can now edit it within the PCX file till everything looks right.

I bet, I probably just confused you and I might of missed a step. You should read the SBB Manual, because that's how I figured out how to do it and it probably explains this better than I can.

Can you explain how to get the other Views.

This should work:
Create the storyboard with the views you have.
Reverse the images for the other views (mirror them) in your photoshop/paintshop program.
I can tell from looking at some units, that this method was used on some of them, rather then render all the views.

but i have to mirror each individual frame for the attack and death before i put it on a storyboard since if i do it the other way around, by that i mean putting the pics on the storyboard and then mirroring, i will get a animation in reverse order. ie. for death i will get unit rising fromn the ground and for attack the lasers will be going towards the unit isntead of away from it, right.

You're right. I see no alternative but to for the mirror to be done frame by frame. It might be possible with cs2 (Photoshop9) to use one of the more advanced filters or some scripting to work around this. But unless you plan on doing alot of these, would probably be simpler and faster to flip frame by frame.

oh boy, i wish i was wrong. Well, thanks!

Just an Update...

I am going to extract several units: Imperial High Guard, Slave I, Darth Vader King Unit, and Count Dooku

Possible creations if time allows: SnowSpeeder, A-Wing, JediStarfighter. Don't count on me to finish these units so if anyone wants to do these just PM me so i know not ot do them.

Units Finished: LandSpeeder

WIP: SSD

Let me know if any of those units are already done or not needed.

@Odin: Unit looks good. It's just hard to tell form the pic if the lasers are flying straight but im sure they are. :D

@ Odin -I'm surprised you made it this far, but it looks like you need to fix your pallette there appears to be a lot of colors missing therefore it's not as detailed. Is it me or those lasers look a little familiar? ;) You could also draw in little "flashes" where the lasers come out, for example look at any one of my units with lasers. Although it's kind of hard to tell, but the unit looks like it could re-sized about 10% smaller.

@ Polyphemus - To possibly save you some time, I've already extracted the Imperial High Guard months ago, but I never posted it, hoping to eventually make it out of a 3-d mesh. We already have a completed Vader Knig unit as well. However, we do really badly need a Snowspeeder and those other units you listed as well. You can also look at the 2 lists in the 1st post of this thread for many more units we need. :scan:

yeah that's what i was looking at and all those units appeared available except for the vader one which wasn't there. Has 'Yoda' been done yet?

No more hours of renaming and mirroring! Batch processing utility found!

I found a batch processor that renames files, mirrors them, resizes them, exports them into different formats; it basically does almost everything for you. The only downside is that you can only convert 6 files at one since it is a free trial version. This powerful tool can be downloaded here!

There is a Yoda unit which he uses his walking stick to attack, but it would be cool if we had the lightsaber Yoda to go along with it. :)

Nice find with that Batch utility, I'll see if I can put it to use. Do you know if the trial version expires?

EDIT: Poly, it appears your DL Link is broken. :(

Umm, I couldn't find the attack DRS for the TIE Advanced, so I just used Chris85's TIE lasers, :D. I'm pretty sure they're not straight, because I just used paint to make these. I'll try to fix them. Then I'll import them into pcx, then have flicster read them as an FXM file, then save the flic. I started a lightsaber yoda a while back, but it had a bunch of errors, the animation was all screwed up, and if you looked at any animation besides SW, the computer would crash. So, anyone is free to try a different approach,

sorry about the link something must have happened in the upload. Here's the new link
It only works for 30 days and right now i don't have the time to look for one without an expiration since i just got back form a soccer game i am going to play anothere one in about 2 hrs. I know there are many out there though so as soon as i find one i post it.

Great! I keep the yoda with the cane for the run and default and death and have the lightsaber yoda for attack. PS. Ihave both GB and its expansion pack which came along with rogue squadron. (all three came in a pack for 14.00 at COMPUSA)

I bought Galactic BG and the expansion pack at Wal-mart for 10$. I hate that place so much, but it's the only store around here that carries it. I have Rogue Squadron 3D as well. That was a great game, but it won't work on my computer. Anyhoo, I've gotten pretty far with my TIE, but there will probably be a lot of problemswith it after I'm done, i.e. centering, etc. Well, if you're going to make a yoda with a lightsaber, this storyboard may help you. It's from mine, which I abandoned because it did something weird in Flicster. Anyway, you could probably use the SW and SE anims.
