Star Wars: The Mod - Unit requests

With low attack , low defense, but high movement it could be a planetary scout/explorer unit for the Rebel Alliance. I asked this q in my last post but no one has answered it- i hope its not so dumb it doesn't warrant an answer  - but how do i upload stuff like my airspeeder model/design/whatever onto the thread (step-by-step, so that even a person with the intelligence of a dirt clod could understand it)?

@Bjornlo- whoops! I didn't know you were working on an A-Wing. Oh well, you seem to be farther along anyway (considering i haven't even started).

Hey, Bjornlo! First of all, the engine thing will work fine. As for shields, I don't remember shields. Just a regular ship. Anyhoo, it should fire red lasers, and the lasers and missiles should come out of these guns: (BTW, thanks again for doing this unit!)

The small barrels are used for targeting.
When looking for the answers to the questions above, I had found a blueprint. It does not address the color issues (laser, engine, etc), nor what the sheilds might look like.
But it seems I should have looked at it closer, since it does show where the missles fire from.

one of the things I do when making a unit is try to find blueprints, as this will let me check how correct the model is any make corrections as needed.

Rgrdng Laser/Missiles:Two Borstel RG9 laser cannons which could be eithersingle fire or fire-linked and two Dymek HM-6 concussion missile launchers, which could carry six missiles each. However, i disagree w/odintheking's pic- while it is a viable idea for the mod, the larger 'gun' is the laser turret and the smaller one above it is a targeting sensor. The missile launchers look like two, long, thin holes near the front of the A-Wing (in the pic you only see 1). Here's a link for a good design pic for the A-Wing:

Regarding the A-Wing's shields, they, like most shields, are not visible (in fact, the only shield i have seen visible is the Gungan Fambaa Shield Generator). All ships have shields or shielding devices (well, not all- the Empire's basic, BASIC TIE Fighters and possibly some droid ships of the Separatists since both could be produced in vast quantity) and since an A-Wing's shield, like all other ship shields, is invisible so how does that make things harder (bear in mind that i just started working on units and still have no idea how to 3-D animate when you answer this) unless you intend on animating the dissappation of the laser across the shield (which there would be no point in doing- the dissappation has never been seen in the movies anyway).

BTW, the missiles that the A-Wing normally* carried were weak compared to those carried by larger aircraft such as the proton torpedo (while the A-Wing could carry up to 4 pts, they were large, heavy, and hampered the greatest strengths that the A-Wing had- speed and manuverability).

Whoops- while i was typing up my last post you seemed to have found the answers to some of your questions. Well, trust both me and odintheking on this one- the lasers for the A-Wing were red and the engines are fine as is. i've never "seen" shields for any spacecraft- the shields appear to be transparant/invisible/see-through/any other term you like better.

@Bjornlo- glad to b of help :)

@SWC: to upload a file, just click the upload link at the bottom of the page. No need to feel stupid about it. When i first joined i was asking like crazy how to upload but know one would answer me so i PM'd thunderfall(moderator). The limit for uploadeing is 3mb. on dial up, which is what i have, it takes a while to upload anything over 800kb. ONce uploaded, the page will change and click view uploads10 folder, or something like that. Copy the URL (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/) and paste in your post. Then at the end of the url add the title of your file with its extension. Then highlight the file and click the URL icon for a file. FOr an image click the image icon once the text is highlighted. Also you can attach a file by clicking 'manage attachments'. The limit for this is 500kb.

NOTE: this is only in the 'GO ADVANCED' view

In all seriousness. There is room for more then 1 version of every unit. Feel free to revisit the a-wing later. My doing this one, should not cause anyone else from doing their take on it.

here is a preview for the SSD death:

WOW, a lot of quality is lost is that conversion to GIF!!! :wow:

The amount of quality you lose depends on how you create the GIF. The A-Wing animation was made with animationshop and then tweaked in ImageReady and as a result it has detailing at least as good as the FLC.

i got tired doing te ssd so i decided to work on SLAVE I

here's the default preview for SLAVE I:

the yellowish color is going to be the in-game civ color.

That slave is looking good.
The dark, highly metalic with high specularity method is certainly the way to go for larger images. However, I think it will be too dark in game. The darker shades seem to get even darker as you reduce the pixel count.
This is a problem I faced with my hummer. I don't know if you'll have the same problem. In the end I found that lightening the color and boosting the ambient color(light) by 10-20%.

this version is a little brighter:
