Stealth Fighters are a complete waste!!!

In most games I play I usually see air power as one of the most important aspects of war. Even from the early ages I build a lot of fighters/bombers and upgrade them all throughout the ages. From air superiority to bombing raids, it's all important. However, I have one problem. WHAT THE HELL ARE STEALTH FIGHTERS FOR???

I usually use Jet Fighters for air superiority, to stop other civilizations from bombing my towns and cities. I use Stealth Bombers to bomb theirs (considering it has the best bombardment in the entire game). Then I went to make a Stealth Fighter and I found out they can't do anything! NO air superiority! The only things are recon mission and bombing strikes! If I want to bomb a city, I'll use a Stealth Bomber, not a Stealth Fighter.

Someone please tell me, WHAT IS THE USE OF THIS STEALTH TRAVESTY??

Stealth Figthers have a better chance of surviving the AI's Air Defenses.

I continued playing post victory in my last Emperor game and the AI had 11 Fighters, my conventional bombers kept getting shot down, and several of my stealth bombers went down as well. It was at this point I realized the Fighter's niche value. Against strong enemy airpower, figthers make a better choice for recon and light bombing missions. The AA factor in C3C has changed the dynamics quite a bit.

That said, Stealth Fighters have limited uses, but they aren't completely useless.

Hi, All,
I agree that the Stealth Bombers aren't the best unit in the game because they come too late and cost too much (240 compared to 100 bomber).
However I've used them in modern age wars when the enemy is certainly protecting it's cities with jet fighters, ships and units with air defense.
The stealths have good bombing rate and huge action radius. It's worth if you have the shields to spare.
Stealth Attack is very good when you want to sink the transport full of MAs hidden under 20 destroyers...
EDIT: they have a special value for me, the only time when I saw America trigerring it's golden age with an F15 was when a stealth Bomber was intercepted. Of course, I was bombing Washington, for a few turns it became a 1 pop city with no improvement in it. And then the fearless F15 came out of somewhere...

They are a complete waste. They come so late that I've never seen one. In fact, the game is loaded with units I've never seen. What is radar artillery?

It's a useful arty with movement rate of 2. I appreciate them when I get there.
CIV is a pretty complexe game, go to the end of the tech tree and you will find new ways to have fun with it.

Stealth fighters are the best recon units in the game...

Out of experience, does that mean you would choose a Stealth Fighter instead of a Stealth Bomber on a bombing mission? (Since they would get shot down less frequently)

Also, can someone tell me what use Recon missions are? I looked in the Civilopedia and I just had the impression that they are for exploring other areas of the map, which is kind of silly since at this time the whole map should be revealed based on the standards of technology.

Yes, the whole map is revealed by this time, but there is still fog of war in that you don't know where the enemy units are deployed. That's what recon is for.

If you don't recon, you cannot bomb a unit/tile improvement you couldn't see.

I modified the stealth fighter to a bombardment strength of 8 (RoF still at 2). Also gave it and stealth bomber minus-3 hitpoints so their increased strength to counter AA would not carry over so much when they are intercepted.

I sometimes use Recon to cordinate my air strikes against their troops.

Yeah, in the editor, go to Edit Rules --> Units --> Stealth Fighter --> Check the box that says "Air superiority".

One thing about aerial recon. You can do your recon in another Civ's territory but, as far as the AI is concerned, you have not violated its territory, its attitude remains unchanged, and it doesn't ordered you away.
