I am still learning tactics for civ3/c3c, but as of yet have found zero use for stealth fighters. They are more expensive than jet fighters, but their bombard is less than standard bombers.

Do you use them? If so, in what way?

Also, I had a few questions for the super-civ'r peeps:

1) Does a stealth fighter have a better chance to intercept a stealth bomber than say, a Jet Fighter?

2) Anyone know the intended purpose for this unit in the game? (Intended purpose and actual use can vary of course)

3) I thought it would be interesting if stealth was divided into two advances: stealth and advanced stealth. Stealth fighters existed decades before stealth bombers, and were designed using completely different methods. (The B-2 for example, used computer modeling and advanced methods, where the F-117 uses more of a scattering technique...) I was wondering if this would encourage more uses of stealth fighters.

Your thoughts?

I've yet to find any use for the stealth fighters, especially since they can't perform air superiority missions.

The only thing that I can think of that they're useful for is recon missions.

The only thing they are good for is recon missions, but thats not a good enough reason for me. My F-15's are much better aircraft, and bombers are just able to blow the crap out of anything. Stealth fighters are useless.

when I want an epic game i turn off space race and diplo victory...

I enjoy modern era wars :)

I can't even remember hte last time I managed to get to stealth before I won the game.

I like to build a few (2-4) just for entertainment value. I don't see the point in building them in large numbers.

It's the only unit in the game I can't recall ever building at least one of.

Does that include explorers? I've never built any of those.

What has stealthfighters with Conquests to do?

Well I don't use them because I never get passed the Medieval ages (win by then anyway)

Stealth Fighters are useful for attacking enemy AI cities which are defended by AI Stealth Fighters. They draw the AI Stealth Fighters out. They are more likely to shoot the AI Stealth Fighters down, but if not and you lose your Stealth Fighter then that is cheaper than losing a Stealth Bomber. Once the Stealth Fighters have been engaged, attack that city with Stealth Bombers.

You can use them to defend your cities too, but SAMs are often better.

Yes, they are better at shooting down enemy Jet fighters since their defense is 6. However, can you really defend cities with them? I mean they can't perform air superiority.

I use Stealth Fighters, but I have also upgraded their bombardment strength to 8.
Also gave both Stealth aircraft -3 hitpoints in so that interceptors would have an easier time with them (if they can catch them).

Nope I never build stealth fighters. I just do all F-15 and stealth bombers.

Stealth fighters may be good for recon missions to sink enemy boats with your bombers. But jet fighters would usually be enough for that I guess...
