Sorry, I did a search and didn't come up with anything on this topic, so here I go:

I like to play accurate Earth scenarios, so I've downloaded some detailed Earth maps... however, I'm wondering if there's any way to increase the probability that history plays out "correctly" in terms of which civilizations get which religions. For example, the Romans get Christianity, the Arabs get Islam, and so on. There might be more than one civ per religion, but the idea is that Taoism isn't likely to be invented by the Brits.

So, I'm wondering, is there an easy way for me to mod the Civ AI's so that they gravitate in the direction of their historic religions?

Well, one idea is to create a series of new technologies that serve only to found specific religions, then make these technologies civ-specific. For example, make a technology that would found Buddhism, and then make it so that only certain civilizations could research that technology, therefore guaranteeing that any civilization you don't want to be the founder of that religion literally can't be. I personally don't know how to do the dirty work for it, but it's an idea I've seen done in other mods.

TheLopez has made a favourite religion mod, which gives each leader a favourite religion, just like favourite civic. It can be downloaded for vanilla and Warlords.
