In the last month, at least 5 people have been killed on street corners in Washington D.C. (I don't live there, I go there frequently though). Some 25-year old took out his Glock 45 and shot a teenager who happened to be dealing crack cocaine there! :faint: Then, at a completely different street corner, a 20 year old man was shot while dealing marijuana. Both of these were at around 2-5 AM. The third death was a stab wound to the chest by a 35 year old woman who happened to be dealing heroin at 3-10 AM.

The last 2 people were 2 teenagers playing cops and robbers, but instead of fake guns, they were using an AK-47 and Glock respectivelly. What kind of World do we live in where we can't deal illegal drugs or play cops and robbers on street corners at 2-5 AM in big cities around schools?

Seriously, why are street corners so dangerous?

I dont hang around DC so i couldnt tell you.

All i know is that its the murder capital of the world. And some neighborhoods are not places you want to be in late at night.

There's been at least 3 incidents of those in the city near me...good thing I don't live next to a street, much less a street corner.

Is this some kind of weird ass quiz where you answer the question before you ask it?

What is drug dealing and too many weapons Alex?

Well, obviously, my story clearly indicates that.

Actually there's a very good reason for this. In the 1980s and '90s, more than a million people in the United States were arrested each year on drug charges when they stiffened the penalties for dealing.

The first wave of those busted on drug charges when these sentences stiffened in the early 1980s are getting out and now they want their turf back.

It's happening in all the urban centers.

Its important to know YOUR city and the dangerous parts of it... Avoid the bad parts, especially at night... This type of thing has actually been going on for years... and will continue going on for many more...

Ah but will that offset the decrease in crime due to the legalization of abortions? Just so we can balance one freakonomics with another! :)

The obvious answer seems to be that we need greater condom usage.

Just avoid the streets where the shoes are hanging on a string from electric wires.

It's actually a interesting phenomenon to watch because these are some of the big kahunas that are coming back to the street. In Chicago we're knocking down the projects which adds a whole other dimension.

Hey that's something I've always wondered... what's up with that? Do peopledo it just for crap and giggles?
There's a few theories on it.
Gang turf
Deceased gangbangers shoes
Some bully throwin' a kids shoes up there to taunt them.
Self expression like ghost riding. ;)

As you can plainly tell,
Those street corners are purely hell.
Their sharp edges lead to untimely death,
Due to their going right and going lef'.
Many druggies have gone quite broke,
(Those street corners have made them go up in smoke).
So heed this warning, clear and blue,
Those Goddamn street corners will kill you!

I hear gun shots from 5 - 7 AM everyday in DC. As long they kill each other I don't care. But you'd think with the stricktest laws and 22 law enforcement agencies it wouldn't happen. Most people think DC is the Mall and G-town. They never see the 900 block of I st. SE. Or 49th & Sherif ave.
