As you can see in the latest save, we were not the first ones to get to writing.
This makes me question our intent on the Philo gambit. The AI could already have a heads up of 2 turns on us. If we intend on getting literature, should we go directly for it or cross our fingers on the gambit?

If we act on Lit now, we can get the GL. I've still yet to see the AI grab that one first, and with a prebuild (we'll have popped out 2 more cities by then; trust me on that one), we could snag the GL easily.

So what say ye?

SaaM

Did you see what turn they actually got it on? If not, have you still got the autosaves (or saves - I used to save every turn just in case) to check?

edit: maybe you should run for Pres SaaM - you seem to be the one driving this game along at the moment!

I really don't know what to do. Maybe we should open a poll to decide that.

I say Full Speed ahead for Literature. We can't risk the Philo gambit. It was lost at writing.

Go for philosophy. I didn't give up iron to go halfway for a free tech then research an optional tech at first-civ price. Research philosopy at maximum science, then grab that optional first-civ priced tach.

This is emperor, so even if we research philo at maximum science we have few chances of getting it. Perhaps we should get straight for literature.

i suggest lit. if we research at max science we would probably lose money or not get any at all. if we make embassies with other civs we will already have less money, and that is the only thing we have over the other civs. the persians are quite close especially with embassies lowering our lead, we need the money, money is something we have and other civs don't. also, it lets will let us make deals buy giving one tech and money for say 2 techs instead of 2 techs, money really is helping us. we research lit at 30- 60% after WC, we need a real military unit that can attack.

Go straight to literature, I can almost guarantee that the AI is heading straight for it, and they've already proven to have better research capabilities than us.

Yes, we can gamble and go for philosphy, but in the early stage of the game lets play it safe and head straight for literature.

Also, we need to start planning to build the GL ASAP.

Obviously, heading for Philo would basically require sinking our entire income into the reserach. Since we can bump back the lux slider this turn, we can give up 12gpt to finish Philo in 14 turns. Remember, though, to make that timeline we will give up our gold.

Lit is a different story. Going full speed ahead, it will take us 24 turns (assumuing no new cities for the time being, or disorder which required lux spending). Personally, I'd rather move to acqure Iron Working (through writing trade w/ Germany) and The Wheel (in 7-12 turns worth of research). We need to reveal these resources so they may be claimed or fought for quickly.

  Oh boy..oh boy oh boy oh boy...

I have no idea what to do...

MY idea...

Max speed to Philo...(to keep the happiness too)

That's all I can think of...but we can't risk the GL...

Make speed to Lit!!

I DON"T KNOW!!

We are currently running 20% unneeded Lux for some reason. We can go to 100% science without going into defecit which as Oct says will give Philosophy in 14. We may need to up the lux a bit, but by then should have another city, so we should be able to maintain close to it. Stick with it, they only got Writing the IBT before we did. We'll then get (if we want) Literature free. With 2 techs to barter round we'll get any techs we haven't traded for in the meantime.

i didn't realize lit is going to take so long, the AI is defintley getting it quicker than us. i suggest go for philo, get lit and trade away them both. philo is 14 turns, hopefully it will take the AI longer to get lit before we get philo.

If we can cruise on Philo with no deficit, then we should deff. try for it. It should prove a valueable brokerage chip in getting what we need.

Too bad there is no way to grab anything before it so we could start a prebuild for TGL (then again, where would we put a prebuild...)

Perhaps in Olympus?

truckingpete, let's get to literature NOW! We can't risk the GL unless we want to lose this game.

Philo will get lit quicker. lit will take 24 turns at max. philo only take 14 turns at i think max. after philo we get lit for free, then build the gl. If the AI takes longer than 14 turns to get lit, we will have a distinct advantage in building the gl.

But the AI will get philo quicker than, now that they got writing. I am affraid that if we risk to research philo first then the AI will discover it before us and then it will get literature for free or faster than us again by research bonuses. We must concentrate on Literature and get the GL.
