"Stop trading with our bitter enemy!" But I'm not :(

I've got this a number of times, where an AI will tell me to stop trading with their enemy, then tell me who it is. So, I go to the trade screen and I'm not trading with them; I have no agreements at all, not even open borders. I'm not sure if this is actually affecting my rating with the civ demanding I stop or if it's merely cosmetic, but it is annoying!

Could you possibly post a screenshot? If not the only thing I can think of is that you are getting the -modifier "You traded with our worst enemies" that doesn't go away for quite awhile as far as I know, even when you stop trading with them. It might seem odd, but I don't think it is a bug.

I think that it is just the nation asking is just, like in real life, affirming your resolve against the "enemy".

Actually, that's a good question - what does "trading" entail? Does trading techs annoy the AI? Or just continuous deals like resource trades and Open Borders?

They are talking about technology and such, and possibly trades that happened 2000 years ago.
