I came back to this game(and C2C) after years. I only remembered there is a lot of stuff and long turn times.
So I started as random civilization and got Mali on pangea map with a LOT of civilizations.
Everything went fine except I did not noticed I already have technology to found new cities so I did not... but AI never forgets ...
Luckily inteligent man as me must notice soon...
My suspision started when I fell out of leaderboard meaning 21 civilizaton got before me....
Then I stopped tunnelvision on my starting city and:
So I founded new 3 cities just to pretend I am competent leader.
My empire was on the left coast of pangea. I was confident I can still recover from rocky start, then I checked neighbours and saw Mongol Is on the right of me... oh...and he hates me.. oh.. and he is first in score.. oh.
I was like NOOOO now I have to use braaaaain :crazyeye:.
I knew I am in race against time now, mongols had way more cities so they will have bigger armies AND I will be hopelessly behind in technology.
I saw only chance for me to survive..conquer somebody to get stronger before mongol will attack me:smoke:.
I had two other neighbours one was Danish but they had obsidian army and I had only horses so it is a no no.
Second neighbor was small Zulu civilization without resources - excellent.. so I hastily mustered army and in two wars conqured them... during second war mongol attacked me but luckily he could not yet utilize his larger empire so my cities did not fall.
Then I reinforced remaining army from Zulu and marched on city nearest of borders because mongol "culture" ate like half of my land... I conqured it with like only 90% losses (I played it without savescumming) and we called it GG with mongol.
In peace time I gahtered huge mounted army but I hidden behind mountain just one turn away from my city which had garrison of few archers... and as expected mongol declared war and attacked city with few archers when my mounted army did LotR thing and saved the day wiping mongol army out of the pangea.
Then I attacked second border city and conquered it again with only like 90% losses.
Sadly culture borders almost did not move again:cry: and war reached stalemate...
UNTIL somebody did trade freaking elephants to me :D. Signing that deal sealed fate for mongol empire as I started spamming war elephants and arsonists like there is no tommorow.
Yes yes yes, in next turn I will conquer their capital... what is this "Mongols showed mercy and returned wounded to you, this is great opportunity for peace.." HELL IF I CARE, BURN BABY, BURN. (ok, ok I wont lie I just conquered it, did not raze it to the ground).
So my unstoppable army conqured remaining 5 cities of mongols and now I can utilize them to...
WHAT? 4 of them one by one revolted and joined neighbouring civilization? ok.. I can just declare....
What? EACH of 4 cities joined differend civilization is this some kind of joke? If I want them back I have to declare war on 4 civs?:run:
Ok then one at a time... Cahterine of Russia did not have green smiley face next to her name that means I have to conquer all your cities... now cower in fear as my unstoppable army of freaking war elephants... dies to your dogs? huh?
Turns out I got too cocky and did not bring any hunter or similar units...
I conqured one city and was surprised how AI uses dogs with great effiency killing my elephants one by one and getting out of range... since they were dying even inside city each turn and proper counter units were sitll on the way I decided it will be better if they die in attack on capital then die doing nothing.
Out of 30+ elephants at start of invasion only one was surviving when my hunters finally arrived.
At least I got that capital with only like 99,66% elephant losses...
Its okay I can now build new elephant army, properly cover it and conquer rest of the Russia...
Except.. not... the guy selling me Elephants refused to sell me more idk why, maybe he saw what war machine I became with them or he saw I am using them as dog food.
Without option to build city conqureing army soon I quicly sued for peace knowing I hold their 2 most important cities now and they will fall in technology behind so revenge is only matter in time...
Except I started new game... yeh a bit anticlimatic but I know when I already won game. I was first in score by that time already...
Thanks for reading. Eng is not my first languaguage :rotfl:

 This happens to me at work all the time.

:nono: Elephants are NOT for feeding to dogs. It's bad for digestion. Dogs don't just eat one bite at a time. They hork their food.

Great read!

This is why Civilization is the greatest concept of a strategy game bar none - and that's not an exaggeration.
Of course, C2C is the greatest Civilization concept (bar RFC), too - so this is just great on all counts.
Well, if we could ever marry C2C to RFC...
