A friend and I have been playing a PBEM game without any problems for a while now, and it's all been going fine. For various reasons, we decided to stop our game, and start another one with an extra player.

Now, my games work fine, and so do the extra player's ones, but when the save gets emailed to friend number 1, for some bizarre reason the extensions keep getting removed from the file, meaning it has to be saved to the desktop, renamed, and then opened, rather than just launching the attachment straight away.

Anyone got any ideas as to what could possibly be going wrong?

perhaps he's got some bizarre e-mail client or some draconic attachment safety options on...

Usually means that the mail server considers the attachment unsafe and will strip the extention to prevent opening it. It can be doing this on either your side or his side. Mail servers and clients usually have a list of extentions that it will strip out of messages, check the security settings of the client but I guess you can do little about the server. Perhaps it would be better to compress the file using WinZip or something like that and sending it that way.
