Short version: I have too much Iron!

Detailed version:

One of my allied city-states have two separate iron sources with 2 iron in each (4 total). None of them where mined. Before bug I had 2 iron units and no available iron (2 used 0 available). I then improved one of the sources for 200 gold. I then got a confirmation and the resource count became 4 (2 used 2 available) as it should. The next round that city-state gave me an iron unit (3 used 1 available). The next round I got another confirmation without the other mine fixed raising the total (3 used 3 available). A few rounds later mine 2 got finished and my count is 3 used 5 available. But I only have 1 mine with 2 iron, and the city state only has 2 mines with 2 iron each.

Note that it seems one of the mines got counted twice due to 3 resource available notifications from the same city when only 2 mines exist. Is this a unique situation?

Is it possible that another CS you are allied with developed an iron mine on their own without you noticing?

This is a common bug. It seems that every time a CS gives you a resource, you get it - even if you already have it from them. Like you, I've improved a resource, received it, then got it again the next turn (doubled amount).

Just last night in a MP game I found another twist to it: I allied a CS, then paid them to improve a uranium. Received two uranium. Next turn they gave me two more. Another player bought the CS out from under me... and I was still receiving two. Bought it back, and I had... 8?

Definitely something going on there.

Hey man, thanks for the confirmation that we have ourselves a bug. I have "solved" the problem by never improving any of their resources. Since this increases difficulty slightly, it is totally fine. It is however annoying, as buying up resources was a nice feature. That said, it should not be instantaneous. I wonder why I have not seen about this bug before? Its a pretty hefty bug that enables you to get an enormous advantage...

No. I had two other CS allies, but neither had Iron anywhere near their territory. It is now a confirmed bug, as the other comment here shows, and I have gone trough this over and over again with saves to find the cause. After many a load, I found that I got the doubling the round after the initial buy of the resource, and I got the same bug for other resources as well; every time I improve a resource, but never if I let them improve it themselves.
