Das Capitolin submitted a new resource:

Strong Walls to Iron Dome - Free basic walls, future walls are stronger, and adds Iron Dome AA

**BETA** Although this project is nearing completion.

This mod gives all founded cities a basic wall with 50 hit points, and makes future walls stronger. City-States receive improved walls. Medieval and Renaissance Walls have better outer defense strength. Late era walls upgrade to Iron Dome Urban Defenses, with free Anti-Air unit in each city upon researching Ballistics.

What about a return to the SDI Defense (however unrealized in RL) that existed in Civ2 and Civ3?

I never played Civ 2/3, so I don't know what you are referring to. I only have experience with Civ 4/5/6, mostly 5/6.

In Civ2 and Civ3, there was a very late game city improvement called SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative) Defense (the second use of the word, "defense," was redundant, but was used in-game, and in '80's and '90's jargon and parlance). This was the formal name of George H.W. Bush (the elder George Bush)'s, "Star Wars program," as it was called in the news at the time, the proposed idea of laser strikes or defense grids from orbiting satellites to, 'zap," ICBM's and SLBM's before they hit a particular friendly city, which never did come to actualization in RL. The improvement, in-game, rendered that particular city immune to nuclear missile strikes (but not spies planting nuclear devices or nuclear power plants melting down).

This just gave me a bunch of mod ideas! Now, if only I had the free time.

"Star Wars" was the mocking name given to Reagan's proposed defense program announced in 1983, which his vice-president and successor, G. Bush, continued.
While as a 'strategic' system it was abandoned, the US military (DARPA) has never stopped research into laser beam weapons for tactical applications . . .

This is accurate. I ignored the remark claiming that Bush had anything to do with naming the program, because there's a mountain of newspapers giving that credit to Reagan.
